Stargrave has several scenarios that require ship miniatures. I'm half way between scratch building or purchasing stuff. 28mm could be a lot of fun to scratch build space ships in. I was curious about what kinds of sizes and styles people were using. Anyone got pictures they want to share?

I printed up a Kodiak from Mass Effect and painted it for a recent dakka painting comp. Should be usable for Stargrave, amongst other systems.

Also have this beast if I need something bigger, but it will take up most of the board

That Kodiak looks good.
I do not have any spacecraft models, and since they are not often used in Stargrave, I think paper models will be cheaper. So I've looked some up on DriveThruRPG. There's three kits in the cart, but I think this one will be the most useful as it has four variants in the set.

If the plastic models were not so expensive, I'd like a Space: 1999 Eagle Transporter for nostalgia's sake.

Thingiverse has lots of free versions of that, if you have a local maker space.

I have other 28mm proxy projects involving dropships & space truckers, so I'll design and print my own.
For now, for scale modeling I'm going through my desk trash, I have about a dozen glide floss boxes to cut up, and the little "window" part makes great scifi desks.
Deodorant bottles and snack packaging is so much fancier these days

I got it as part of an STL Kickstarter from these chaps:

They do rather nice Star Wars inspired terrain and vehicles. This one is clearly inspired by the YT2000, but is still its own thing.

Great suggestions. 3D printing is a real gamechanger for this kind of thing. I don't have one, but it's probably where you'll get the best stuff the fastest. Love the hamster ball scratchbuild.
I think I'll be going the "deodorant bottle scratchbuild route for a couple of ships anyway, and I might make a couple of extensions to make my walkway terrain into more of a spaceport. But papercraft is a good shout too, some amazing stuff in that hobby especially for space ships. I'd just be worried about durability.

It all depends on how you store them. I've a GW cardboard village from 2nd ed WHFB. It has lasted all these years since it resides in its own box sitting on top of more durable terrain pieces like foam hills. However, with these paper spacecraft, I'm not too worried if they survive or not as they are inexpensive. Still, I'll put them in the village terrain box.
@kodos: Thanks for the links. Downloaded some of those. Free is even better than cheap. [I can spend the money saved on more miniatures! ]

Starlink ships are about the right size for the scenarios, and very cheap right now (presumably the associated videogame is no longer a big thing, if it ever was). I've picked up three so far.

For whatever reason, they are not cheap here in the US. Best I could find was $9 + $8 for shipping. Amazon US has one at $39.99! A far cry from the one linked to. At the current exchange rates that's about $4.08. Pity, at $4 each they are a good option, and they are painted. [In a bright toy-like fashion, but hey, it saves the effort. And perhaps in the future, military fashion for aerospace fighters might return to the bright colors of the Great War aviators.]

I should just bust out my Kenner Millenium Falcon. It's damn close to 28mm scale. I mean, it's 75% of the board in size, but what a SHIP.

I've ordered Stargrave and waiting for it to arrive, but wondering how much of a role spaceships actually have in the game itself? I trust they go beyond just being scenery pieces?

They're pretty much just scenery. There's a mission where ships are taking off from a starport and they can knock your dudes back with their thrusters as they take off, and there's a system for 'upgrading your ship' but really that's just an abstract thing for the pre and post game sections, the ship has no use in a game outside of that. It's stuff like adding an armoury to your ship and so on.

So there is actually a role your ship plays, but it's not played out on the gaming table. They act as a base of sorts, and you can upgrade them with certain equipment ("Medical Suite", "Armament Workshop", etc.) that give your crew additional capabilities or resilience. They mostly affect the "between games" bits, either prior to or after. You don't need a model for them but it's an excuse to build cool spaceships.

Daemonscape in the UK sells a nice little CASEVAC shuttle in resin for about a tenner. It's about 12.5cm/5 inches long. Only thing missing is a set of landing feet, which I scratchbuilt from old bits of plastic.
Daemonscape is pretty good for cheap resin scifi vehicles - big chunky models in an old-school style too. They're the old Ground Zero Games 25mm range, but they mostly fit well with modern figures too.
