Hi, I've got a Dimarcheon I am trying to base. The height of one of the legs was off a bit so I added some depth using green stuff to make it taller which created a few more problems. I have two questions for you guys.

1. Is there a terrain paste that is porous? I am looking for something like the Vallejo textures that I can spread over the green stuff to blend it in with the rock. Probably hard to tell from the pictures but the rock has small holes everywhere and the green stuff is smooth. Anyone know if Vallejo Black Lava or White Pumice is porous after drying?

2. Does anyone make plastic or resin rocks that I can use that would match the rock he is stepping on? I would like to spread a few of these rocks around the base to make it looks more natural, just having the one he is stepping on looks a bit weird.

Have you thought of using some thick broken up Cork pieces?

They do make great rocks.

As for the air bubbles there is a fine filler that one of the companies make but I can't remember possibly Tamiya.

Loads of companies make fillers, Tamiya is one such.
Although I think filling and sanding the pores would also lose a lot of the rock texture.

That said the pores (manufacturing defect) may mean your best bit is cut those rocks and just attach him directly to the base, probably with pins.
Cork bark chucks is my go to for large rocks, I bought mine from Geek Gaming Scenics, but you might be able to steal some from your local park or something in a flower bed. Dry them in the oven first though.

Depending on what you're doing with the rest of your base, using GW texture paints may be a solution. Going a smidge taller around that foot with something like Astrogranite (or your preferred tint before painting) can easily obscure the greenstuff addition.

That's also very true.

I've recently started using a scheme with snow and tufts for one army, and now I don't have to care about slip ups on the base. Just slap a tuft or some snow over it

IME they're an absolute godsend for low stress basing. Layer it up to the height you want (especially useful when you've got rocks or other scatter terrain bits on the base that you want to blend together), a wash or two to get the tone/definition you're looking for, slap on a drybrush to make it pop and you're off to the races.

I find cork too large for most bases, even if you trim the cork down it'll fill the base.
I mostly use fish tank rocks for small bases, I use the cork for large bases and/or empty bases for flying models.

very easy to paint with just washes and drybrushes either way!

Putting some rocks or other bits around the greenstuff will hide it nicely, no need to worry about the texture.

And in addition to the usual sources for teeny rocks, you can always shape one out of balsa, sprue, foam, etc if you need a specific size to prop something up.

The dark cork-board tiles work better than the regular cork tiles that you see everywhere. They're a bit thicker and made from much larger chunks that tear down into very nice looking rocks. The Limited Edition Luke Skywalker below comes with a molded snow base that wouldn't match my other figs, so he got a standard base with some corkboard rocks to stand on. Incubi also got some cork rocks, the leader is standing on a sheet of coarkboard and all the other models got a few loose rocks pulled from the same corkboard. The darker sheets are more expensive, but it's worth it and you'll only ever need to buy one pack
