So with the new Kill Team on the horizon and myself being SUPER excited for it, I got to thinking: What themes could they build Kill Team expansions on that you would all like to see?

Mine would be a Death World themed Kill Team, Catachan vs Kroot. Both are model ranges that are ancient and could very much use a tune up. Also, we see all the technological craziness and demonic infestation, but when was the last time we got terrain for a monstrous Death World? Plenty of room for creative terrain design and/or special rules.

What would you all like to see?

I think we need to step back and look at past kill team expansions. each expansion was tied around expanding the rules to allow new things.

we had elites and commanders, just for example. So going from here I'm going to assume the new kill team has those rules still (if not we can inevitably expect them again)

so what next?

Kill team: Heros rules for using special characters in kill team (not all of them obviously because primarch tier characters would just be absurd for kill team)
the box would contain a pair of special characters and a supporting squad (think like the recent space wolf vs ork box, but smaller and without a large primarch tier special char)

maybe bring in a primarisfied Lukas the Trickster vs Duke Siliscus? It'd be nice to see a dark eldar char returned to them, and those two are due a rematch.

Likewise there's been a big demand for inqusition and GW seems to have finally admitted they're not the perfect thing for the scope of 40k..

So the next big thing would be "Kill team: Inqusition" this would at first blush apper a bit like rogue trader as a stand alone thing, but it'd also come with some rules for doing your own inqusition based war band etc with lots of customization rules for an inqusitor, lots of campaign rules and some fun new background info.

anyway those are my two "ohh this would be cool" ideas

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

The ability to take more than one of each weapon type would be nice. That'd be a pretty good way to expand things beyond only being able to build exactly what comes on the sprue.

Inquisition, that's for sure, it'd be awesome to have a Kill Team of my Secret War characters duking it out in black ops missions. Maybe a way to customise your characters stats? It seems with the new War Cry-like stat lines it might allow for a nuanced character creation system. They sorta did it with Necromunda, why not Kill Team 2: Electric Boogaloo? It'd be hell to balance but not impossible. The TT Skirmish game I'm making is basically about making your characters and I've balanced it okay, still getting there through playtesting, though (which GW don't seem to be doing much lately, in all honesty)

Gaunts Ghosts, too. They need to be in Kill Team 2: Electric Boogaloo, they (meaning Gaunt's Ghost grunts) should've actually been in the starter kit instead of Kriegers as they are far more fitting for a small infiltration spec ops team than the Death Corps of Krieg as they are basically specialist line infantry, maybe they should've been made as a box by themselves? The next box set could have them, though.

The box set could be Tanith 1st and Only vs Blood Pact? Or Sons of Sek? Or even Orks as they fought them in Rawne's awesome short story in Ghostmaker? Now that'd be awesome as...well. feth lol Fans would be all over buying it, even cynical as feth one's like me.

Edit: Actually, the stats aren't nuanced now I think about it at all lol.

"The best way to lie is to tell the truth." Attelus Kaltos.
My story! Secret War
After his organisation is hired to hunt down an influential gang leader on the Hive world, Omnartus. Attelus Kaltos is embroiled deeper into the complex world of the Assassin. This is the job which will change him, for better or for worse. Forevermore. Chapter 1.

The Angaran Chronicles: Hamar Noir. After coming back from a dangerous mission which left his friend and partner, the werewolf: Emilia in a coma. Anargrin is sent on another mission: to hunt down a rogue vampire. A rogue vampire with no consistent modus operandi and who is exceedingly good at hiding its tracks. So much so even the veteran Anargrin is forced into desperate speculation. But worst of all: drive him into desperate measures. Measures which drives Anargrin to wonder; does the ends, justify the means?

NPCs and narrative expansions would be awesome, something like a diplomat that needs to be protected.
Archtypes that can be used with teams that fit.

Last man standing missions, and base defence.
And light vehicle rules for special missions, have the books come with missions for both standard play and quality narrative rules expansion would be what I would really want.

Seconding Cultists vs. Inquisition. People always talk about how the Guard needs more customization options, but what about the slave mechanics of the Iron Warriors, the chaos clergy of the Word Bearers, or the completely ordinary law-abiding Imperial citizens of the Alpha Legion?

I would like to see some of the minor factions play out a bigger role in kill team. I don’t know much about the game so I don’t know if this is way off track but:

Dark angels interrogator chaplain led team of raven wing hunting down the fallen

Or fallen led by cypher taking some mysterious objectives

Sister of silence hunting down a pack of rogue psychers

Fabius bile and cohort vs home brew craft world

Then I’d like to see what a squat, ogryn, gretchin or jakoera kill team would look like

Deffo less space marines, they get enough attention

I'm actually fine with special weapons being super limited in KT. I am SICK of so much plasma everywhere. If you can only bring 1 plasma, melta or other super damaging guns it'll promote more tactical play both with them and against them.

Also fairer on armies who just dont get kits with tonnes of options or special weapons inherently.

I am also fine with KT restrictions based on what is available in the sprues. I see the idea of Kill Teams as bunch of specialists and anything that encourages to build a variety of models instead of optimized equipment is a plus in my books.

However, for new approach to work better we need more kits that are designed with Kill Team in mind.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

Yeah, seems like everyone is craving more Inquisition. Would certainly be a perfect fit for Kill Team. My vote would be for Amberly Vail and a few members of her crew with Caiphas Cain and Jurgen vs something like Genestealer Cults would be pretty awesome.

I'm honestly surprised they weren't. Way back in the day when OG Kill Team was introduced in the Battle Missions book, it was the old Gaunts Ghosts vs Genestealers (of all things) that was used for the promo pic.

I think somewhere in the middle would be the healthiest for the format. If you only get what's on the sprue, it is limiting. However, we don't just want to be seeing the same "meta" lists everywhere either. I'd have to read the full rules before I speculate, but there does seems to be some flexibility so far. For example an IG Kill Team includes 2 Fire Teams, but each can only have 3 of the 6 available specialists. So you could double down on the plasma/melta/X or you can spread it out to get 1 of everything. I'm hoping for more of this where you get options for multiple but there is a cap or a trade of to taking them.

That sounds great. We already know from Crusade that they are not opposed to less balanced and more narrative variations on the game. Maybe taking a page from 1st Ed RT and makings a tone of upgrade/utility options? Bring in terrain that actively effects the game? Neutral creatures like the Ambull, that just attack whoever?

I was thinking more about this and another idea after they do the pending Elites, HQ, ect things that we all know are coming. For them to do a supplement book for sub factions. It wouldn't have to be anything expansive, but something like a specialist unit for a sub faction and maybe one rule. They should then be able to fit all the sub factions into one book while still making them all just a little more flavorful.

For a SM example, Black Templars could get Sword Brethren, Ultramarines could get Sargent Tellion, ect...

I like using the Guard's Imperial Advisors as NPCs that need protection. Espern Locarno from BSF can be used as a generic Navigator model- I bought two extra Locarnos from Ebay to kitbash with Delaques so that I can create more Navigators.

I was reading the Crusade rules for Torchbearer Fleets in this month's Dwarf; narrative content of that calibre would be great for Kill Team.

I'm curious about the Archetypes entry on the datacard; it implies that there are different types of Kill Team even within a faction, and the list of specialists you can choose from will differ based on the archetype.

I'm hoping they continue doing starter set boxes for Kill Team replete with large amounts of terrain for a different setting. I'd also love it if they use new Kill Team to give a minor refresh to factions in need of it, Kommandos and DKOK were a great pick. I'm sure there are some other ancient models that could use a refresh and would be perfect for Kill Team.

Not really an expansion but I am hoping they have KT rules for Gaunt's Ghosts. Not a Guard player but I picked up the box since I love the novels so it'd be fun to use them in KT.

Really? I had no idea, that's pretty fething kewl.

Oh! A Gereon 12 from Traitor General expansion would be cool, even a campaign book around it. You could even try it with a Vindicare Assassin or something else to make a whole new story.

I really love the Rogue Trader and retinue models that debuted in BSF and the Kill Team expansion. While the odds of another RT Kill Team expansions is probably low, I do hope they port the stats over for the existing models to the latest edition.

Kill Team: Imperial Agents

This would have the Inquisition, with Ordos subfactions, but also have generic Rogue Traders, instead of the Elucidan Starstriders. This would let players customize their own Rogue Trader crew instead of being locked into a pre-made team. There should also be the various imperial assassins, and the Arbites. If there are other Imperial agencies that have military or police forces suited to SpecOps, add them as well.

That would be terrific, taking an RT or Inquisitor as the leader of the Kill Team then allowing you to take existing models to flesh out the rest of the team with imperial units that could easily fit into both retinues like Arbites and Crusaders.

That sounds like a great idea. Would be cool to see it actually take place on a ship like a boarding action or something. Could come up with some really interesting terrain and rules for that.

While not necessarily expansions in and of themselves, I'd like to have a second crack at some of the old one off Kill Teams that I never got to buy because I wasn't playing much around that time. Like the Gellerpox and the Euclidian Starstriders. I mean, they wouldn't even have to do a full expansion, just release them as stand alone Kill Team kits with updated rules. They could do this for the BSF models too, sell things like the Traitor Commisar / Ogryn or the Ambul / Zoat with special rules for KT as their own thing.

Yeah, now that the Missionary profile has been altered to fall in line with Taddeus the Purifier and the Preacher to align with Pious Vorne, those two models need to be re-released.

Gotfrett de Montbard and Knosso Prond really made me thing we were getting Crusaders and Deathcult Assassins. I really liked the step-up that these character profiles represented; it would be nice to have these models as generic support characters as well as new plastic DCA's and Crusaders. Mixed Ecclesiarchy Battle Conclave kill teams are cool.

KT is a great vehicle for tons of new units; CWE Rangers, Scorpions or even mixed Aspect teams. It's the kind of thing that makes you think plastic Mandrakes or Grotesques might still be on the way, despite us not getting them when the dex dropped.
