Hi there,

My wallet is itchy and I feel like I want to spent some money on the Nidz.
I've been away for more than a decade and saw alot has changed.

With 9th coming in, is it worth to buy the last Tyranids codex?
If i buy the battle cards, I'd say I have enough ideas to assemble an army.

If need be I'll wait for the new codex and just play 5th like I used to with some cool looking models as an extra.

I’d get the codex. A lot has changed since 5th edition and you’re stepping into a new world of rules and power. You do have the new rule book, right?

I suggest skipping the codex entirely unless you just want the lore. All the rules can be found on Wahapedia and you can make your army and print out all the relevant datasheets with Battlescribe. That way, you save yourself $50 that could be spent on new models and you don't have to worry about where to keep all the changed info from FAQ, errata, and updates that have happened since the 8th Ed codex was put together. Going forward, I suggest the same for all GW books honestly. They're way overpriced for how many problems and mistakes they have in the printed rules, not even to mention how fast they are outdated by the previously mentioned FAQ, errata, and updates making the purchase relatively meaningless except for the lore sections and pretty pictures. Additionally, GW seems to have decided that making people buy one overpriced book per army wasn't enough, so they're splitting out extra rules in separate (and equally overpriced) books to force people who want physical copies to spend more for their rules. Admech currently needs 3 or 4 books alone in 9th to have all the official physical rules. They would also need a number of note cards for all the changes they've had since release as well, depending on how small you write them.

When the actual 9th ed dex comes, I'd buy that, but buying the 8th dex now is unwise.

Because Nids are a big part of Octarius, there's a decent chance we'll see it before the end of the year.

+1 to don't buy the codex yet. Nids are one of the more likely factions to receive a book in the near future with the Ork vs Tyranid vs IG themed campaign incoming, so hold off for now.

Cynically I'd say it's not even worth buying the next Codex, but to actually answer your question: No. Not at all. It's going to be replaced in the not-too-distant future, so you would just be buying waste paper.

Find a way to get the current rules as a get-you-by for now (and Blood of Baal as well, as there are tons of great rules in there), then buy the new Codex when it comes out.

@OP:

Don't buy anything. Just download the Battle Bible from the interwebz.
