Hello fellow travelers far from home,
after some rounds of playing, I would like to discuss my recent exploration between the stars of the so called Fringe Space, far from the reach of the Unity government.

My crew started out as a bunch of punks and criminals, who picked up a droid and have been accompanied by a K'Erin (some Klingon inspired chap). They started out with 4 enemies from the beginning, an old fuel eating freighter but almost no dept. I imagined that all the enemies they made where caused by the crew scamming a spaceship dealer.

To represent my crew, I used various miniatures from different manufacturers: The crew captain is a Wargames Atlantic Fallschirmjäger, 2 where made from Mantics GCPS, the fourth human is a Games Workshop Escher Ganger, the K'Erin is represented by a Kroot and the droid by the Blackstone Fortress Man of Iron. I have been looking for an alternative model for the droid, a more Star Wars looking droid would be great. Alternatively, I could think using a human figure as an Aliens style android.

The first planet my crew landet on was called Phinda 9AM and its authorities restricted the freedom of Ferals. I used an online planet name generator to get the planet name. I wanted to use the different properties of planets to use as an incentive to build small batches of themed terrain to represent each of the planets unique properties. I had already imagined an ice planet, or steaming jungle. But I also really wanted to get a game going, so I used my already painted Necromunda Zone Mortalis to have a good looking table quickly. I also thought that the terrain might fit a more oppressive planet hostile to certain types of aliens, so it made sense in my head.

The first mission was a patreon mission, where the crew received the task to escort a VIP to the center of the table to finish some kind of objective. I represented the center objective with a computer terminal from Necromunda. I had some trouble figuring out the way the AI might act in the first round, but decided that I would more or less place the enemy figures in a way that made sense for the story, not looking to closely at what the AI rules actually described. The game creates some weird combinations: My first fight was against some Punks, who had the special rule that they only hit on a role of 6. The two specialists received hunting rifles as there primary weapon, a 30" range gun. Why those drugged up punks thought using a rifle they cant even hit with is beyond me.But it added some fun elements thinking of model movements, because on of them even managed to land a hit!
I represented the punks with some Orlock gangers I had not yet assembled, back from the days where I had high hopes for the new Necromunda (bleh, too many books).
First impressions after the first campaing round: lots of rolling on tables! Lots of cool results! Human brain likes rolling around hoping for nice events! The loot at the end of the first battle wasn't as impressive as I had hoped, but maybe it is good that the cool gear is found over a longer campaign period. Keeps the character progress interesting for a longer time.

In the next round, I had collected enough rumors to start a Quest. Unfortunately my crews rivals managed to intercepted, so I had to fight some Gangers instead. Again, the fight was rather one-sided, because the gangers have the special rule to run away 3" after being hit, resulting in them standing in more and more bad spots. Well, gangers aren't really known for tactical positioning I guess. After the battle, they decided they had enough and my crew could remove one rival from their roster. Still 3 more unknown rivals to go.

My third game will be against some giant bugs. I rolled for everything ahead of the battle, but discovered that I don't really have any miniatures yet to properly represent those bugs. I could assemble some Wargames Atlantic Giant spiders, but the way the bugs where described in the rules didn't really match what the spiders looked like. Same goes for the Genestealers I got in the lost patrol box. I am currently contemplating using some cheap toy bugs, but nothing as of yet really satisfied me yet. Maybe someone can show some ideas here?

My general impression of the game is extremely positive. The character creation was very fun. My imagination is running wild thinking of possible ways this crew may have found each other. The game mechanics hit my personal sweet spot of not to much needless rolling to determine if a shot wounds, but not just a simple "I hit, so its dead". I have to admit that tracking all the charts and roles can get a little tedious, but the PDF is well organised and CTRL+F is your best friend.

So, tell me about your journey! I would be interested in your crews and what planets they discovered!
