They are delayed and should be available to pre-order sometime during September.

I am really glad they have started to delay things. The stocking issues have been nuts, hopefully they can alleviate it by easing up on the pace of new releases.

The delays really seem to also be hurting them, significantly, in regards to getting things out the door. Had tracking info for a week on some stuff before it ever left the warehouse.

If bottleneck is production of stuff this just delays old stuff stock more. New stuff is priority. 3 month old release has already sold majority of sprues it will sell so restock isn't priority over making new kits to stores.

Only way old kits get restocked is if doing that has zero impact on ensuring new stuff goes to sale as planned.

I get the sense that you think this is a discretionary delay, rather than a necessary/unavoidable delay?

Edit: More to come in this post, hit submit by accident.

I can tell you as someone who deals with roughly a dozen global corporations(powersports industry) who would look at GW’s yearly profits and call that a good month or good quarter, they are all having a similiar issuse. Focusing on newer product at the expense of older product because that is where the money is made, particularly as we get closer to christmas, which can make or break a dealership for the rest of the year in some dealerships.

So how does it work then?

We don't know WHAT is causing the delay. If it's literally producing sprues you can bet gw will keep doing sprues for new stuff rather than stop that to produce sprues for old releases as new releases is where money is. If gw would discount sister models of 2020 it wouldn't hurt their profits all that much as those are yesterday's news. Already made most of money they ever give. Gw keeps old stuff more to ensure sense of continuity. People don't buy new stuff if they think it gets squatted soon.

We don't know what is causing delay but we know gw won't delay new stuff even a day if they can avoid it and if it means causing month delay to restocking old stuff fine. Old releases don't bring profit. New does.

The level of speculation in this thread is making the discourse pretty meaningless.

We have a pandemic still ongoing. We have brexit. Some combination of these is causing some disruption, and that is causing delays in GW getting product out.

We don't know where exactly the disruption is hitting them, and we don't know the metrics GW use to react to these disruptions.

That's really it.

Glad of the delay as last month was heavy on the wallet.

They've been covering them quite a bit over on WHC recently so I'd reckon we'll all know about it next sunday, possibly alongside the upcoming Aeronautica set?

Yeah in hindsight my comment was rather vague so fair response. To elaborate:

tneva82 wrote:

I was responding to this specifically. There is no way that producing old stock, or anything for that matter, has zero impact on new stock. It is all one company; even if there were, for some reason, completely separate production lines with no staff or resource crossover whatsoever one would still impact the other through the budget. We also know for certain that GW is indeed restocking old product even now.

I don't think it's a production issue, but a shipping issue. Shipping has spiraled out of control, with businesses paying $$$$$ to ship what used to cost $$. On top of that, major shipping companies are offering a "Pay an extra $$$ and we'll bump you to the head of the queue."
Shipping Costs
That article talks mainly about shipping from Asia, but this is affecting everything around the world. GW might make most of it's models in the UK, but it prints all it's books in China. I think they also print them in France?

The Pandemic is making it hard to get workers, affecting production, shipping, prices... ugh.

Just to add a little to the discussion, here in the UK we're having real issues with stocking shelves, to the point that retailers are warning that Christmas is gonna be hit hard. We've a shortage of HGV drivers due to Brexit and Covid so things just can't get from one place to another. No idea if GW is affected by this but... a lot of retailers have empty shelves due to this issue.

I work at a distribution company in Canada, and we are struggling to get things in from some of our suppliers, and we are mostly just ordering across the boarder. I can't imagine how awful shipping products internationally would be right now.

We've had a lot of our suppliers jacking up prices on us as well, as shipping containers have tripled in price, and it's just hard to get things shipped these days, and there are so many delays. I've waited months for some items which a couple of years ago would only take a week to get in.

GW can manufacture all the plastic kits they want, but how awful international shipping is, is completely out of their control.

Tell me about it.

2020/2021 make me sooo glad I (effectively) retired in mid-18'....
I spent 30 years in big retail at all lvs, was really good at it, was well paid & had long planned a 2020 exit. So solid financial plans were already in place.
And then we went out of business mid '18 & retirement started 18 months early....

And you know what? THANK GOD.
Because good as I am at this stuff? As much as I loved what I did? I just don't have the magic in me to make big retail (wich was already hard enough & getting harder) work while juggling:
•an evolving pandemic,
•insane safety protocols/costs,
•shutdowns,
•lack of staff,
•severe lack of product,
•inability to move remaining product through the system,
•having to increase wages (without being able SELL the very stuff that provides the $$$!),
•and dealing with a population half of whom here in the USA seem determined to win a Dawin award....

We’ve been told the same thing here in the US. Warned up front that things are going to run out and you won’t be able to get restocks.

Went to the Warhammer store today and was pretty shocked!

Nearly all of the new Orrucks were completely sold out, I was able to get a Breaka-Boss, that's it. And I got the second to last one they had.

Meanwhile, nearly all of the Stormcast stuff was fully stocked. It looked like he'd only sold a couple of books and one or two chariots.

Anyone else see similar stories today at your local stores?

I’m not sure we sold any of either today? I’d have to check.

No worries.

I'd just be curious to know how stuff is doing in different areas. I checked one of the local non-gw stores and they had completely sold out of all they ordered. Numbers I was given from them were (10 total battletome - of each, 3 Breka-Boss, Three Chariot, and all the Orruck Dice.) So it was a smaller order.

I know the SCE battletome sold out and OWC was down to 2-3. Models not sure how many sold, we got a lot of them.

So what are the first impressions everyone is having for the Battletomes? I wasn't able to get the Orruck one, but I got the SEC and I have to say rules wise the dragons look OP AF. A lot of older models seem to have gotten worse, namely the Celestant on Draco, which saw a nerf to it's tail attack, and I think rose to 500 points.

The Beast Hunters (Can't recall chamber name) seem to have the most useless of useless army abilities as I doubt the new monster actions will even see much use.

Anyone got the greenskins rules and have any opinions?

Having only played Ironjawz, the Orruk one is hard to judge. They got some new fancy rules like Brutes stoping single wound models from contesting objectives, Ardboyz get a 4+ Rally, and Warbosses getting to use Commands on multiple units at once, but generally paid for them with some sometimes heavy stat nerfs across things. The new structure of sub factions is interesting, losing the required Warlord Trait and Relic, but now only having a single bonus rule, which sometimes only effects a single specific unit type.

That rule for Brutes is an interesting design space and I hope to see more across other armies.
