I've never struggled so much on a miniature before, does anyone have any advice please? It's the bikini armour that I'm failing at (main picture below, the side shown on the inset isn't too bad, it's supposed to be a spiral of wire and the gaps between the rings are just so close together. How would you go about painting it?

Thanks in advance! I'm hoping for something like the following;

So what exactly is the problem? Did you glue up the model before painting and the wing is blocking your approach with the brush?

It actually looks pretty good to me. You maybe judging yourself a bit harshly - perhaps leave it for a day or two, put it on a shelf and look at it again to see how you feel?

One thing I’ve done in the past is block in the darker colours first (so I guess in this case the entire ‘area’ would be metallic) then edge back in the detail using a detail brush and watered down paint.

But honestly I don’t think this needs that much work!

I've pretty much identified and solved the problem I think, it was my eyesight. I was struggling controlling the brush while painting the spiral bikini-armour. I've bought a magnifying glass on a stand from Amazon and the results are much, much better.
