Am i actually being quite literally blind or can you seriously not have a normal Boltgun on either of these characters anymore? Y'know the staple weapon of the Sororitas

It's not like it's a standard issue weapon, a symbol of the Emperor's divine judgement, first and foremost of the holy trinity...

In the 41st Millennium, leaders don’t carry rifles. They carry swords and badass pistols.

I believe the legacy rules allow you to take a canoness with a boltgun, although that will not be possible in official tournaments and the like. The palatine is a new character who has never had any options other than her pistol.

Yeah 8e does, I've had sisters since 2nd. The Palatine was around in 2nd / 4th

I think 4th Ed was quite possibly my favorite in terms of codexes and the fact wargear was far more of a customizable thing but equally the new vehicle system/crusade rules and general missions look cooler in 9th.

Its just taking quite a bit of adjusting as it all seems a lot more streamlined and less variable in what people will take out of limited options.

I'm not really trying to make a tournament force, given the majority of my selections are all for fluff / a cool force over function and a slot in for my Dkok which are a latest adventure.

My other shout was to simply not take one and take a missionary instead.

Or, just use a condemnor / Chainsword and notify my opponent as I'm no tourney player.

The Palatine dates from Codex: Witch Hunters where she had access to the same wargear selection as the Canoness.

I'll throw a somewhat fluffy entirety uncompet list up in the army lists section in a bit.

This notion has mostly stemmed from I've some really nice old minis and some new i want to incorporate in that I'd sooner not kitbash as I like them as they are ie 3 classic penitent engines Pious Vorne, Tariana Palos & Uriah Jacobus.

I mostly wanted them as a support infil into a krieg list that contains an Arkurian Shadowblade and some other cool bits so wanted to keep the force aesthetic to quite gritty & zealous over angelic and Pious if that makes sense and having a fairly "basic" HQ was part of that aesthetic.

Pious Vorne is the model for Preacher with Zealots Vindicator.

Uraih Jacobus is a Missionary with Bolt Pistol, Ministorum Shotgun, and Chainsword.

Tariana Palos Is sadly just a Battle Sister.

By model yep, but in equal argument the Canoness in the combat patrol comes with a load out you can't have in conjunction in 9e, seems a bit heathen to kitbash or convert a comemerative mini as its so nice as it is but equally seems a waste to just slot in as a battle sister.

The fact I'm entirely likely never going to play a tourney means Wysiwyg is probably less of an issue, I'm still getting used to even creating lists in 9e, didn't realise you couldn't have a missionary & a preacher in the same list

Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, and Rod of Command is a totally legal wargear option for a Canoness in 9e.

As for Tariana, she’s cool but lacks any of the vestments of a Canoness or Palatine.

Yes. No Boltgun in the kits, so no Boltgun option. There is this nifty Condemnor Boltgun option.

Yeah I clocked that, I'm pretty sure in ages past the combi bolters, such as plasma / flamer / melta were a piece of wargear too over only available to sis sups now with the exception of the condemnor.

I assume you guys have padded around in 8 and 9e for a while?

How do you find it on the whole as a system compared to previous editions?

I'm yet to actually play in it so it'd be cool to hear what you rate / miss.
