How do those of you who enjoy card games feel about Garfield's newest venture?

With Keyforge on hiatus, do you find it appealing?

Looks like it's based on a similar premise to Keyforge which is a pretty niche set up.

'Unique algorithmically generated process with no two decks the same' and 'Organized played with tournaments' is a moment.

To be fair, Keyforge also does the generated decks thing and has been moderately successful.

It's still a niche game trying to survive in a market when Magic overshadows everything. And it's gimmick is basically a trash printer as people open deck after deck after deck trying to find one that isn't gak. I think that's a big part of why Keyforge hasn't really grown despite its success.

It's a game that only really works in a 'lets crack open some decks and play what we get' sense. Like MTG draft. Except you get to keep your MTG draft cards and can slot them into constructed decks so Keyforge (and this) are still kind of trash printers since cards aren't usable outside their precon deck and precon decks are garbage by definition.

The names attached to the project will probably help it turn a good profit. The game will be forgotten about in a few years. Keyforge is already basically vanishing.

I could see this being a lot of fun as a digital card game, but in paper? No thanks.

It's basically trying to cater to the same kind of player who enjoys draft Magic. The thing there though is that no one really does draft tournaments because draft is a gak show and that's most of the fun of it.

I played the original SolForge back in the day and enjoyed it. It was a well-implemented digital app with some fun strategies and the concept of levelling your cards was a novel and effective hook.

I've played SolForge Fusion on TTS (and you can, too, it's a free beta/demo at the moment!) and the changes they've made to turn structure are good (even in a vacuum, and it looks like the alternate actions will give a good opportunity to do the admin work of levelling cards in meatspace), and I very much like the smash half-decks from different factions together as an improvement on the KeyForge formula -- an underwhelming deck might improve with good synergy-complement, instead of just being a dud deck like in KeyForge

Not gonna lie, it's worth a back from me and I feel pretty solid about it.

my buddy and I jumped in, Our local store is getting it as well. Not a bad price to give it a go for 4 decks and 2 playmats.
