Any ideas for new armies?

Here is my thought. I've noticed the Tau Army has a bunch of cool xenos species that fight alongside the Tau. But in practice I rarely see them on tabletop games, probably because Tau firepower is so good, its just more effective to spend the points on an all Tau army.

What if we had a new army that was simply a coalition of these various xenos, minus the Tau, and fighting for themselves. Maybe it starts as a rebellion against the Tau Empire?

For inspiration, I was thinking something like the Covenant From Halo. Coalition of alien races, religious, and virulently anti-human.

Now that would be an army I'd consider buying!

Even without the rebellion thing, having more Tau auxilia has been a common request. There is just a lot more to Tau lore than Kroots and Gundams.

That does indeed sound like a cool army. I wish more non-imperial factions could take more allies in general as well, and the game needs more monsters. My army idea would be xenos monster Knights, like godzilla style, or something. Needs work.

I would love to see some form of xenos Knights. Ork Gargants or like Nid Super Heavy forms. I'd also love to see new Knight houses based around serving Imperium/ala The Knight Houses that help the Custodes.

what we really need is the Hrud, where's our space skaven at.

Your Hrud are welcome in my Tau Auxiliary rebellion.

BTW space skaven? That gives me an idea for my old skaven models...

There's also those dino-rider folks that everyone on the internet loves so much :-) I think they were in like one or two 40k stories and now people are like: "shut up and take my money!"

...and I'm definitely one of those people!

If we had an army that was made up of multiple xenos races like kroots and squats how long would it be before we are calling for an index to allow us to have and army of just kroot or just squats! Haha

But I do like the idea.

I would love more Kroot as a already play an all Kroot list (minus the Ethereals for HQ choices).

I'd love to see more of the Tau auxillary races too. There is technically a model for the Jokaero, but even though they are Tau allies, it's an old Inquisition model. XD

For new races, the Hurd would be really cool if they could find some way to uniquely make them work on the tabletop.

Personally, I'd like to see the Men of Iron with some kind of like preprogrammed ruleset or something. Like RT robots, but actually usable and not ridiculously complex.

Honestly, I'd like anything the explores new design space and brings something fresh to the game. If they released a new race but it just felt like a reskinned existing one, I'd be pretty sad.

Yeah, I'd love a unified xenos faction. Where you get to pick from the Tau, the Eldar, and the Orks.

I would support an Imperial Agents dex that did right by the Inquisition, Rogue Traders and other miscellaneous agents and unaligned units.

Wait, is this a 'New Army' thread or a thread about all the standard wishlists that people have wanted for decades now?

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

I remember a time when Tau thought gundams were a bad idea, instead they preferred their hover tanks. How times have changed.

Slaan and "Squats".

The Seraphon in AoS are well known for travelling the stars and were in the original 40K:Rogue Trader. Kitbashing with the AoS models would be a sure win for GW. Maybe having some alliance with the Tau?

Kharadron Overlords have "Squats reboot" written all over them. They'd make for an interesting Necromunda gang at the very least.

Not new but Ynnari are a bloody mess. If players cannot mix units in a detachment, and don't even have a codex for their faction, then there isn't any point in having the faction. Might as well scrap it.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

An idea that's been rattling around my head is some sort of pirate republic, made up of people of various species united only by a desire for freedom and a love of profit. Not as over-the-top sadistic and supremely arrogant as Drukhari (though they would undoubtedly include a fair number of Drukhari who chafe under Vect's rule), but still with a "wretched hive of scum and villainy" vibe. They would have a ramshackle/patched-together visual style, a bit like the Orks, since most of their equipment is stolen or scavenged. Their focus would be on speed, melee, and close-range firepower. Their society would be highly meritocratic, with the toughest, most cunning and most daring rising to the top regardless of gender or species. This one captain is an Ork, this other captain is a female Eldar corsair, this one is a former Red Corsair, and so on.

In general, I find that 40k doesn't have enough individualistic factions. Almost everyone, be it Imperium, Chaos or xenos, is way too "die for your cause" (Drukhari and Orks being notable exceptions).

Agreed. They should also bring back Inquisitorial Stormtroopers or some similar elite Inquisition footsoldiers, or simply allow Inquisition armies to integrate Militarum Tempestus as troops.

One of my longstanding opinions is that Chaos cultists should be playable on their own instead of just being cannon fodder and objective holders for Chaos marines. In many ways, Genestealer Cults (with their mining equipment repurposed as war machines and their units with various degrees of mutation) are what Chaos cults should have been. Chaos cults should also be given more complex motivations than just worshipping bloodthirsty gods, for example a belief that the Imperium is holding humankind back and that Chaos will help humans achieve their true potential. In addition they should have actual leaders who are not Marines, such as charismatic revolutionary figures.

Heck yeah!

I use the BSF stuff houe-ruled up a bit for chaos cults. Rogue psykers, the Traitor Commissar and Ogryn, the traitor guard, and the Escalation Cultists do make chaos cults interesting... But you have to replace some keywords, eliminate some restrictions and give the Rogue psykers access to discipline powers beyond smite in order to make it work.

I'd 100% be behind a tau auxiliaries army.

With spehs mehreens setting the bar with >too many< "different" codexes, it would be good to see some of the other ones get some love!

I'd also be up for an increase in ork superheavy walkers to rival knights, though I don't think it would need its own book, as orks are a very inclusive sort of race and they won't say "nope, not taking a stompa, we've got a few too many boyz for that!".

Going back to the Epic days, Stompas should be the Ork Knight equivalent, while Gargants are the Titan equivalent - some Stompa variants would be an idea, along with actually making the base Stompa usable.
