Is that a viable model? I want that to be the lynchpin of a chaos warband/combat patrol. I really dislike almost all of the skulls and spikes chaos aesthetic so I am thinking a mixed squad of Alpha Legion marines, my Orison dreadnought and another squad of reflavored IG dudes and dudettes with autoguns and shotguns...

Would that be "legal" in 40k...and if so, what books do I need to find for 9E? Due to the GW policy of having units spread out over different codexes and may be missing from edition to edition, I don't want to waste money by buying shrink wrapped books at the LGS or buy them online when I don't know what is in it.

Or can I get away with mixing and matching 30k and some 8E 40k?

Thanks.

I played against 2 of them earlier. Yes they are cool and effective.

Depending on the Osirion Dreadnaught's loadout you can just run it as a CSM Helbrute if you're aiming to keep it simple and use just one book, but if you get the Imperial Armour book with the CSM in it there should be Chaos Contemptor rules for some of its loadouts. There's no way to make it a psyker and still be a Dreadnaught. Alternately you could proxy it as a Daemon Prince, it's about the right size, I suppose?

As to Marines/Guardsmen there are Cultists (Guardsmen-ish models) in the CSM book right now, so you should be able to run with just the CSM book. At present the CSM book is on its 8e incarnation and unplayably terrible, so you may want to wait for the 9e book to come out to decide whether it's worth bothering. If you're planning on using them as Thousand Sons they have a 9e book, but you can't use Cultists there, you're stuck with just Marines and Tzaangors (beastmen with chainswords).

So, psionic dreadnoughts are no longer a thing? I thought the Blood Angels and Thousand Sons both had them, in some incarnation in some edition(s).

Grey Knights 712 points Imperial Stormtroopers 3042 points Lamenters 1787 points Xenomorphs 995 points 1200 points + 1790 points 770 points 369 points of Imperial Guard to bolster the Sisters of Battle

Psychic dreads are not a thing for TS in this edition. Grey Knights have them. Makes sense since it wouldn't be a sorcerer entombed.

I've been planning on using the regular TS contemptor as a Helbrute as my Osiron is just a "Contemptor". If the old contemptor doesn't come back I'll probably find someone that can print the old FW box TS dread.

As for books - Thousand Sons codex. You can find a contemptor datasheet pretty easily so don't buy a book just for that model. The last book may be one coming up next yea for CSM so I'd just count those IG as cultists for now.
