Hi everyone,

I apologize in advance for the obvious self promotion.

I have just started my own Patreon page for STL file models, which I wanted to share with you hoping to get some feedback on the miniatures and the project in general.

More info below.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Apologies in advance for the long and image intensive post.

The Patreon link, where you can find more info: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=61366006

For the first month I am offering a free Welcome Pack to all supporters, which includes a large model that can be used as a Demon Prince and may interest Warhammer and Age of Sigmar players:

The model is customizable with different optional parts (heads, weapons, upper bodies).

More examples of the same model in different configurations:

And a couple images of the printed miniatures (and please note that because of my very poor photographic skills most of the detail is not showing in the pictures):

The full content of the free Welcome Pack:

And my very first monthly content with Halloween themed models:

More images of some of the Halloween miniatures:

You can find more high resolution images of all the models in my Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Labyrinth-Models-109327614823584

Thank you for viewing this long post, and I am looking forward to your feedback and comments.

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that I am launching today my very first Patreon content with the Halloween miniatures pack.

I am also adding two members exclusive models that I will not distribute or sell anywhere else:

Printed samples:

That brings the total October content to 21 miniatures (including 1 large monster model, 3 terrain pieces, and 6 "Hero" characters).

This stuff is very nice looking, I'm unsure of the scale. But excellent stuff.

I'm not huge into overly fantasy-based stuff, but as a sculptor myself I can safely say that this guy is going places.

The amount of detail and skill required to sculpt this is extensive and looks very difficult to do quickly.

The Cloth alone is pretty much on par if not better than GWs miniatures, a thousand times better than Reapers miniatures.

For me, my only hang-up is the fantasy elements of the minis. I much prefer historically accurate miniatures. But that's superficial, these miniatures are excellent in every possible way for fantasy miniatures. They're obviously not supposed to be historical.

If I was a chef and this was food I'd give you the Gordan Ramsey stamp of approval.

Some professional critiques are the cloth is just exquisitely sculpted.

Given I've done full caparison on hores I can tell you cloth is not easy, even with physics-based modelling which I'm reasonably sure you just eyeballed it and sculpted it. Rather than using physic models.

Nearly flawless work. I could teach about a week's worth of classes on the skill and design perfection here. Sure there are small barely noticeable imperfections here and there, but it's so slight that it would likely not show up in even the highest resolution printers.

This is art. Well done. As I said almost 100% flawless work. 99.5 out of 100%

Also never say sorry for self promotion there are very few outlets for small creators to actually get noticed. People dislike adds, and people dislike promotion. Where does that leave creators?

We can still see some minor imperfections in the hair and cloth, and some minor details and edges, which could be sharped up to look a little less doughy, but that is only really noticeable to a trained eye that specifically knows what to look for, and likely won't matter on even higher resolution prints.

A quick application of a pinch brush and some masking should take care of it reasonably quickly.

However, the fact that you're pushing that quality which is near perfection is astoundingly good work.

The only other qualm I have is that a lot of it's the same model in different poses, and some minor variations such as unique torso armour could go a long way here.

However, from a production time/money standpoint, you're very clever in how you manage your time.

You are an inspiration.

Your work is a joy to critique because of its near perfection.

I'd be happy to provide a lengthy analysis of your art any time, don't worry it would be mostly positive.

All I can say is WOW sir.

Just a quick heads up so your awesome sculpts get don't get overlooked, I noticed your posts on some print subreddits currently have no preview images. For whatever reason reddit can have text and links, or attached images but not both in the OP; otherwise posts will appear like a bunch of urls rather than a preview image. So when you upload multiple images and want descriptions or include patreon link use only the Caption field for each image. It took me a while to figure that out.

Thank you; that info will actually be extremely useful!
I will definitely try it next time.
Thanks again.

So just joined and downloaded the main pack of Decembers models - gotta say I do really like these! Sculpting is clean and nice, detailing is good and overall nice proportions and attention to fine details on the model.

A few nit picks:
1) I can tell you've not used lychee a models do throw up a lot of holes in them. This is something a quick run through Windows 3D builder typically resolves in a few moments. These are the "tiny" sort of holes that can end up in a model and Windows 3D builder is normally good at catching and dealing with them. A few might be listed as non-manifold as well (the new version of lychee doesn't specify non-manifold it just says structural errors).
Things like this can cause slicing software to glitch and you end up with a solid rod of resin running up through the model or such.

2)Turn off Penetration (set to 0) in your support settings. Chitubox or Lychee it doesn't matter which.

Penetration is a setting that gets recommended for the wrong reasons. As a setting what it tells the software to do is to push the tip into the model when attaching a support. Because most tips are cone shaped this means that the surface in contact with the outside of the model is slightly thicker than the tip value you selected (because that part of the tip is inside the model).
The result is that you get "more hold" with penetration. However you also get the below:

Here you can see that the tip pushes past the part you've supported and into the model and comes out the top - causing damage to the detail of your model when its printed.

Furthermore you'd get the same increased grip if you just set penetration to 0 and increased the tip size of the support by a little.

Remember when the software slices it doesn't "see" support and model, it just sees model. Supports and model are one and the same to the slicer and the printer. So having part of the support inside the model doesn't matter, its just resin mass. The only part that is doing its support job is the bit in contact with the surface.

I'm not saying penetration has no use, its just a very niche tool that has specific situations where it helps and is required; the rest of the time its not needed.

Thanks for the suggestion, it sounds useful. However I can't find the Penetration option in the Support Settings (I've got version 1.9.0 of Chitubox). Could you help me find it (or any equivalent command)?
Thanks.

I've not used Chitubox in a while and don't have it installed - sadly its "file preview" feature for stl files in folders is unstable and crashes my windows explorer constantly if any stls are on screen; and as I found chitu itself also crashed a fair bit on its own I've now moved over to only using Lychee*.

So I'm not totally up on what changes they've made to Chitu. When I had it in the past the penetration value was found in the support settings tab. So over on the right hand side when you are supporting. Under all the various values for tip size, column thickness and the like it was buried in there.

*which I honestly recommend you try, its fantastic!

If you recommend Lychee that much, I will definitely have to try it. :-)

Lychee works great, it can be a bit more tricky to get used too because the supporting mode uses keyboard commands more than Chitu, but once you get a handle on it its really easy and you've a lot of power (esp in the pro version which is very affordable) over the structure of the supports.

One thing you will notice is most of your models come up red with "errors". Lychee can try and fix them, but if it fails open the model in Windows 3D Builder (its free, if you don't have it you can grab it off the windows store) and it will pick them up and fix them typically very well without issues.

After that keep an eye on the middle bottom of the screen in lychee; that's where it puts tool tip reminders such as the keystrokes to help when you are attaching supports.

Atlas (who do a lot of the presupports for big patreons) have a few good guides on how to get started with it on their website
