I will credit H.B.M.C. for giving me the idea for this one.

He commented on how often i play and how much i get to play. to me this has been normal for close to 2 decades that i have been going to and later volunteering at my FLGS. As a gamer and mild hobbyist for most of my life the idea of not playing regularly is alien to me.

I think this has a lot of influence on how we all view the various games we play, how many systems we play, and how we debate them here on the forums. in our local area all experience is anecdotal of course but this varies from theory about games played or the rules VS posters chasing tournament results, net lists, mathhammer and online stats etc...

So where do the dakka members fall?

Last couple years have been rough. Played my first game of 40k since 2019 on Friday (it was great!), which is also the first time I've played a minis game (other than D&D if you count that) in the same timeframe. Prior to COVID I was maybe doing somewhere between 1 game/month and 1 game/quarter as I was in a bit of a funk and trying to focus more on the hobby aspects than the gaming aspects of things.

I'd say a game a month on average for me. Varying between Titanicus and Necromunda for me with the odd bit of Frostgrave thrown in.

Thanks to pandemic... I've had two games in total over the last 2 years. Both of which were in June 2021.

About once a month.

My group is all vaccinated, but a resent surge in the area for COVID has caused additional cautions. Since our hospitals are all full locally, we have been slowing it down again.

I usually play at least one game of 40k or AoS a week, and/or a few games of Underworlds.

I get to game multiple times/week.
•Sat is minis - often 40k/Sigmar/Flames of War.
Sometimes multiple games in a day.
•Fri is boardgames at the shop. I make it to about 60% of these.
•Thur is our D&D game.
•Sunday-Wed, Fri/Sat - there's always a floating evening where I'm playing whatever league game we're running (Kill Team atm, Sigmar ptg soon).
TBD based on my opponent & I availability.

Usually twice a month. Our group is only 3-4 guys who play brand x games as a rule. Occasionally we play GW stuff like blood bowl and before octarius we even played kill team with the larger pool who pretty much only play 40k and KT.

At the moment less than once a month unfortunately, but that's a big improvement on the years I spent not playing at all!

If you don’t count Shadows of Brinstone with my family, a handful to a dozen games per year. I’ve maybe played three games since the pandemic started, so it only affected me slightly.

I don’t find gaming essential to my hobby.

Frickin' nothing. Stupid bloody lockdowns.

We have been playing Black Crusade for 2 hours a time over Discord each Saturday for the past month or so. That's been fun.

But prior to all this nonsense, it was probably once a month.

Ordinarily: once or twice a month.
Since covid?

Maybe once in the last year.

Well you do live in the authoritarian state of Australia( i am assuming new south wales)...i could make cheeky jokes about prison colonies.

Even covid lockdowns in 2020 didn't hold us back for long, we had about a 3 month "vacation" before we started running private invite only small group game sessions.

It's not as bad as your media makes it out to be. But, then again, nothing is really as your media makes it out to be, is it?

It let me build more terrain, so that's always a good thing!

If I'm lucky though, with the upcoming long weekend, I might be able to get in an actual real game of something. Probably BattleTech.

There is a reason why i get my news from a wide variety of sources

Doesn't mean i am not going to poke fun at you. I mean i have been with you since the days of the space battles forums back in the late 90s, it is kind of required

My time was spent painting all of my pile of shame, and touching up damaged minis.

Typically one game a week since I basically play one day a week and it's hard to have two full games in less than 3 hours. Sometimes I manage to get two games though, and sometimes I get to play a couple of days in the same week. There are weeks in which I don't play at all. So the average is 1 to 1.5 games a week I think, definitely less than 2.

Due to covid the average was certainly lower in the last couple of years.

Once a week at my gaming club, could be up to 3 with local scene being fairly healthy but RL duties come first

I used to play once a week, whatever campaign we were doing at the time.

I haven't played an in person game since Covid started, and I'm likely finished with tabletop games at this point.

There's always just the modeling/painting. Try a cool conversion rules be damned, something that hasn't had rules in forever but you'd like to build, etc.... try out differing painting techniques, give sculpting a try, you never know but it's easy to drop the game part. Build a diorama?

Been there, done that. i have display cabinets full of static models i built prior to getting seriously into mini gaming.

The fact i have a game to play actually motivated me more to finish building/painting. the Social activity of going to the FLGS and hanging out with friends while playing games is a huge part of the draw. otherwise i would work all week and just sit at home on the weekends to play video games, do work around the house etc.....

Eh. I've been doing tabletop gaming for 30 odd years now. A big problem is that today's games I really have no interest in. And the social aspect is important but covid makes me not want to be around a lot of people. Should a game ever come out that I enjoy I may re evaluate. But considering the big GW seems to be 90% or more of any given FLGS attendance, and that 40k and AOS are both games I have no interest in, and doing more community building is not something I am interested in doing again after doing that for so long... moving on to other things has been in my cards for a while. Covid just fast forwarded it a bit.

I pretty much don't play at all these days. Not covid related at all, though. I maybe arrange one or two games a year with a friend who also does historical gaming. I'm just not as interested in the GW games anymore, and don't have a tight knit group of gamers to game with anymore.
