So, there are 7 editions of this game. Which is the most enjoyable version to play and why?

I am thinking of picking up a version, but am unsure if I want to spend the cash on the two books for 7th. How does this version compare to older versions?

My understanding is that there are not significant differences between editions of CoC until 7th edition and even 7th edition is mostly the same save additional clarifications, some adjustments for previously unclear things, and changes in how some stats are displayed (but not in how they really work).

Most reviews I've seen for 7th edition have been positive. One thing to note is that the game in 7th only requires the Keeper's book to be played. The player's book is a lot of fluff and unnecessary materials for the game itself.

Point of fact, the various Cthulhu RPG's are all so akin to another that they can all use the same campaign books. Call, Trail, and Pulp mostly just bounce around certain balance and mechanical elements but functionally are all compatible with one another.

Yep they are pretty consistent until 7E and frankly 7E is solid, I like it better than previous editions.

Most people that I know that have played the new edition have liked it, not a great change from previous editions and I think there is a guide to convert anything older to the new edition.

My biggest hurdle to moving to the Seventh edition is the availably of the books and the money to buy them.
