I used a Terminator castle. Terminators with a lot of shields, long range rocketlauncher and combi plasma. Some melee weapons. SW powers to give them - 1 to hit and beeing in cover.

But, I had to cut it out. My regular opponent played Ork and the old codex did not really have any good awnser to it.

But new codex. Do the orks hav better AP these days? Can I blow of the cobwebs and Stil have funn, for both?

Basic choppas have AP-1 now, just like chainswords. Otherwise the only army wide improvement in AP comes from the Speedwaaagh, with a bonus of 1 cumulative point of AP (example AP-2 becomes AP-3) for all ranged weapons mounted on vehicles for two turns. Bad Moons trait grants another cumulative 1 point of AP to ranged weapons at wound rolls of 6 as well.

If the ork player launches a Waaagh instead of a Speedwaaagh and doesn't play Bad Moons, basically only choppas have better AP compared to 8th edition codex.

Orks and SW are my two armies, they can definitely be on par and play a fun balanced game. It's entirely down to models available and the experience in playing the updated codex.

Terminators with stormshields are 2+/4++ with +1 on the roll, +2 if in cover VS shooting. I do not see Ap1 help much against that.

How about the shootingbprofiles? Any AP there?

Yes, I mentioned the bonus granted by the speedwaaagh, which lasts two turns. If you base a list on vehicles/bikes every plane, mek gun, buggy, kopta, bike will improve all of its ranged weapons' AP. Combined with freeboota klan trait, which gives access to +1 to hit to basically the entire army if triggered, orks have definitely a very solid shooting phase right now.

Rokkits for example become much more deadlier when they become AP-3 instead of AP-2, Big shootas become AP-1 and dakkajets' guns even AP-2. Hitting on 4s can also be a massive upgrade. Speedwaaagh also grants additional shots for dakka weapons for one turn, a minor upgrade but can also contribute.

If played correctly +1 to hit and -1AP to a lot of stuff can change the results of the game.

In combat orks are pretty terrible outside the heavy hitters with high AP and damage, basically just a few characters and some vehicles/cavalry. Buggies, dreads, koptas, meganobz, squig riders can do something but they won't wipe an armored dedicated melee unit like terminators.

The gain of AP-1 in combat for the 0 point weapon is quite irrelevant since units that rely on choppas don't really do much damage. It's better than nothing but not something orks rely on.

Armies that are based on melee (Goffs and Snakebites mostly) will use the Waaagh instead of the Speedwaaagh, they'll unlikely choose the freeboota klan to boost shooting, and for them there is no AP upgrade, outside the one on choppas.

The wound count of terminators is as much as a problem as the armor save. Or betters said, the combination of both is the issue. Outside of having loads of rokkits, there are very few units which can reliably take out well armored 3 wound models.

That said, the ork codex has gotten better as a whole, unless you are trying to build armies around boyz. You will usually find a way to kill terminators if you have to. Compared to deathwing or deathguard terminators, SW terminators are rather tame.

If you are worried about them overwhelming your friend, you can always leave the priest at home or run him with offensive powers.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.
