Hi all! I have lately been looking around for a wargame that can accommodate multiple kinds of genres at once (ex. Pitting mages against alien invaders, or a biker gang vs a dragon). Unfortunately, my searches are not really turning anything up and my knowledge of other wargames besides GW and Warmachine is quite limited. Thought I'd try asking around here for opinions.

Any recommendations would be appreciated, but I'd be especially keen on more complex (even bloated) rules than lighter ones.

Thanks in advance!

Most "generic" systems can do the job and the Wargame vault is full of them.

You could also manage it with the following:

Dragon Rampant
Rampant Stars
Song of Blades and Heroes
Rogue Stars

etc.

My, that does looks interesting. Seems the quickstart rules are free too, which is a nice bonus. Will definitely look into this one. Thanks for sharing!

Ha! Forgot about that one entirely! I was a bit too young to grasp all the rules at the time but maybe it’s worth another look. You’re right though, that one acommodates nearly everything. Thanks!

Interestingly, that was the first place I looked, though they did not have a “universal” or “miscellaneous” tab on the website. Seems my searching skills need some work. Thanks for giving some examples.

One thing about Dragon Rampant, the Facebook group has a MOUNTAIN of fan made and tested add-ons for the game to run sci-fi stuff along with the base fantasy rules. Makes for a fun and simple squad/small platoon sized wargame when you have tanks and spearmen.

Bruality is truly "any genre" due to the way the setting works for the skirmish game, having a fantasy beastman fighting alongside a Napoleonic era soldier with a musket, a demon, and a current era Green Beret all working together.

I'll give another shoutout to Brutality. If you want a quick once over on how it plays GMG did a series on the game about a year ago

I highly suggest Brutality, as well. There's tons of ways to build fighters for warbands. Even if you don't use the included setting, it's super easy to make it your own. I actually plan on using the same set of rules for a strictly Age of Sigmar-themed skirmish game, or possibly a RIFTS-style post apocalyptic setting.

Goodness gracious! I didn’t expect Brutality to come this heavily recommended.

Seems the PDF doesn’t cost too much, so maybe that might be worth a shot. Again, thanks for the recommends!

Dragon Rampant seems pretty cool too, especially with the fan rules out there. Does Brutality have a similar kind of scene?

I'm on a similar quest. So far Savage Worlds Showdown has caught my eye the most. I kinda zoned out at the pages and pages of different weapon profiles, apart from that it seems neat.
