Updating with the latest... weird stuff: XL handle which will likely break if you accidentaly let it fall, Doc Ock Knock Offs to hold your minis while they bond, new plastic subassembly holders because they don't want us to glue subassembles in small sticks, and a spray stick redux so you can use the new expensive holders with them.

Atleast they claim that these new tufts are more stickier and don't need PVA glue. And work fine even with varnish (which I only belive only after seeing it).

Eh, cool. Would rather they do fantasy/sci fi tufts as there is way less of that on the market. Blue, purple-green, bright red, etc. My flgs got some in (third party) and they sold out quite rapidly.

I don't understand why anyone would buy these or those awful army painter ones when you can get Gamers Grass.
I guess many GW fans are stuck believing only GW make stuff.

Currently most played: Silent Death, Xenos Rampant, Mars Code Aurora and Battletech.
I tried dabbling with 40k9/10 again and tried AoS3 - disliked both, but I'm enjoying HH2 and trying Battletech Classic and AS out

So no, as they both seem to require PVA from their store description. That's quite surprising as self-adhesives have been the standard for good few years. Not for me though, the other companies have that market firmly locked down with way more choices and even height of tufts than just two.

Middenland Tufts have sticky bits on them, I use it for my BA stuff and haven't needed PVA at all.

Accessibility if their local store only carries GW product (or is a GW store).

But also, online exists. I understand just starting out, going to the local store for basic models and glue, but surely at some point a whole human being would realize they can search online for products?

And some would rather see the product in person before purchasing. There's a number of reasons why someone may not wish to purchase products online.

Sure, there is the minority of people who don't trust online photos at all and always shop locally, but the downside to it is expensive and limited selection of TWO exciting shades of green/brown

And again, that's only one possible reason out of many as to why someone may not wish to purchase products online. So how about we get back on the topic of the new tufts instead of trying to find all of the reasons for someone not to purchase them?

Never knew about Gamer Grass before.

Picture me surprised, there is one independent retailer in México.

Hopefully they’re similar enough in colour to the old ones that they won’t be too obvious. I only use Middenland Tufts on my Imperial Guard, Blood Angels, Sisters of Battle and Lumineth XD

Those Gamer’s Grass ones look nice.

GW’s look serviceable. I’ve used some of their tufts in the past (I picked up their arctic basing kit when that was a thing) and they were not bad. The problem is the classic GW issue that’s the huge markup over comparable products. Tufts are a fairly well established market, with many brands supplying them. Army Painter in most FLGS, and model railroad shops having even more options. Unless these are aggressively priced, how much are you willing to pay for convenience?

I use Army Painter myself. Still a little torqued that they switched their flowers from a tear off mat to tufts. Is what it is.

Sure!
They sure are tufts, with two safe colors! I hope they're not too overpriced.

The end? I mean, they're tufts, unless they self-immolate when put on non-GW bases, that about covers the topic I feel.

I bought 160 Tufts for £6 from eBay. Could have had all the same, but went for a variety pack with about 10 different colours, lengths, flowers etc

Just for context when the price is announced.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I also own a static grass applicator, so if I need a vast number of a particular sort I can make them for a fraction of even that, but I'll concede that's not a fair comparison.

Funny, previous Citadel tufts are nowhere to be seen in the international store.

Mordheim Turf and Middenland Tufts have been out of stock on the GW website for ages, so its no surprise that no one else has them either.

You realize shipping costs are a thing, yes? If you only need 1-2 boxes, grabbing one at GW store might well be cheaper than getting them online, not to mention getting them instantly, not week or two later (which is also a thing now, with current disruptions I am getting mail that used to take 3-5 days up to 2-3 weeks later)...

So - £10 for 125 from GW, or £4.99 for 70 for Gamer's Grass. If they're the same size GW doesn't seem that bad.

Shipping is indeed a thing but (I assume your flag is correct)- I can't think of any polish LGSs that stock ONLY gw hobby stuff and there's exactly one GW store in Poland, so chances of you being in a situation where GW tufts are the only option is basically as small as winning a lottery, and two- Hobby stuff isn't really high urgency items. No one NEEDS tufts by tomorrow.

As for comparison.
Spoiler:

This is the GW tufts pack:

It costs exactly the same as the pack below with greater variety

And for just under half the cost of the GW one you can get

Basically however you cut it, if you want tufts, GW ones are as basic as the basic Paint Forge pack, but twice the price, while the Gamers Grass stuff costs as much, but comes in much greater variety to accurately fit the biome you want to depict.
