The mutalith vortex beast has vortex powers that go off in the shooting phase. They are pretty clear other than the beam of unreality, at least for me.

"Select one enemy unit with a wounds characteristic of 10 or more within 24'' of and visible to this model"

can I select a squad of 5 intercessors since they have 2x5 wounds as a unit? Obviously if it said select a model with 10 or more they wouldn't be an eligible choice but they specifically say unit.

Thanks for the help!

hey what time is it?

A unit doesnt have a "wounds characteristic", only models do.

DATASHEETS

4. PROFILES
These contain the following characteristics that tell you how mighty the models in the unit are.
.
.
.
Wounds (W): Wounds show how much damage a model can sustain before it succumbs to its injuries.

You cannot select a unit with 10 wounds, only a model with 10 wounds. A unit who has one model with 10 wounds in it, is a unit.

If we go by strict RAW, the beam of unreality doesnt work, because a unit doesnt have a "wounds characteristic".

No. The Wound Characteristic is that number under the W on the Unit Datasheet.

An unit with 10 separate1 wound models has a wounds characteristic of 1. Despite the fact the unit has a total of 10 wounds worth of models.

Regardless of the number of models in the unit the units wound characteristic doesn't change.

FWIW if a model suffers wounds it's wounds characteristic doesn't change as well.
