Does anybody have a 3d print file, or where to find one, for kitbashing a 40k rifle sling? I am putting together a proxy HQ who needs a way to carry a plasma rifle. Some have suggested just gluing it on and saying its held magnetically to his back or side. I'm not sure I like the look of that. No luck searching "40k rifle slings" and I'm not sure of a material that would pass.

Thanks all

Honestly I doubt I'd even try 3D printing such a thing - you're talking a really tiny part and to custom fit such a thing via a 3D file to a model you'd have to have the exact model dimensions and part to even make the part.

I'd say you might well be best to use some greenstuff for this kind of thing. A simple strip of greenstuff would easily make a simple sling to hang the weapon from.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I was kinda thinking it would be pain. I've not ventured into green stuff yet but it seems like a some enough thing to start out on.

It also hit me that I've seen people do stuff like heat up sprew pieces and pull them to get strands for different effects. I might play with that as well. Maybe stretch something out and try to flatten it like a strap. I'm a total noob to kitbashing ... actually to 40k models in general so I'll likely have more basic type questions like this.

Much appreciated Overhead... take care.

Eh I'd not start messing with plastic - fumes are not good and you're more likely to end up with a mess.

Greenstuff - the metal greenstuff tool - some colourshapers (often sold in packs of 5 - if you only get one get a cone head) - any colour, but if you only have one get grey or black (white are good but just a hint softer so grey and black are a touch more practical for general work).

Get a hold of those and have a play around

Not sure of the shape size you are looking for, but I have done some fold-over straps by simply cutting a strip of paper, soak in thinned down white glue (school glue thinned down with water) and put it on the model. It will stay and take the form it is pressed to and dry hard and keep its shape, while also sticking to the model. Once painted it should look like it is part of the model. Super easy and quick.

Specifically, construction paper would probably work well for this method, giving you a thickness and texture that would should work fine for a 32mm leather strap.

Sure, as long as the paper gets saturated in the watery glue, it will shape and dry hard.

Thanks everyone. The paper idea sounds great!! Will give that a go. The sprue idea was a bad one : ) I ordered some green stuff but the paper idea i can try while I wait. Creative idea everyone. Much appreciated.

I had made some cloaks for the Mantic Elves for my son's army with the paper/glue method and they worked out pretty good - so much quicker and easier than trying to sculpt them.

Dude, those are awesome. I haven't had time to try the slings but this cements it, I have to try it. I may be giving my DA characters some sweet cloaks now too. Any ideas for kitbashing some fur? A nice lion mane collar for the cloaks would look sweet on Azrael or Belial. Great work dude.

Thanks. I had some pics for the step-by-step for the cloak process from an old post I did. I will dig them up and add them. The cloaks really seemed to beef up the looks of the spindly Mantic Elves.

As far as fur? Maybe using some felt instead of paper?? I am sure you can find some fuzzy material at a fabric store.
