Intro to a small project i've started!

This is more for myself to keep on track and motivated. I've determined to not horde spare miniatures around anymore and to complete what I buy, and focus on one, maximum two things at a time. If you enjoy the thread, i'm glad and please let me know your ideas, this is a fun project.

The Lore-
An Alaitoc War host, shattered from heavy losses against the Imperium of Man has taken on a band of roving Corsairs. The Corsairs are cut from the Void Dragon cloth, and are therefore bloody thirsty murderers who wokr for coin, loot and thrill seeking.

They join an Alaitoc Warhost as a fast moving element. As it stands, a Corsair Prince and a Void Dreamer, leading a band of Skyreavers have rendered their services.

There are promises of fast and deadly Wasp Assault Walkers incoming. There is a whisper too of a Phoenix Bomber, which would surely stir fear in the hearts of the Wolf Astartes.
More to follow if the runes of fate tell the truth.

The Logistics-

I completed a pretty large Alaitoc Army and I had about 20 left over Guardians and a few loose ends. I was mucking around and read the Doom of Mymeara and instantly fell in love with Corsairs, who I didn't know much about. This was about 6 months ago. Since then, I've tracked down a downloadable 3D file for their wing pack upgrade and helmet. As far as how i'm justifying the lore, my Eldar keep getting slaughtered by my friends Space Wolves. Whilst trying to work out how to win a game, I noticed that the Corsairs popped up on Battlescribe. My gaming group is really cool and happy for me to run a Craftworlds Legends Army to include my Corsairs. In honesty I think MSU units of Corsairs with a special weapon definitely have some utility, especially with 16" movement.

My vision is to have approx. 2k points to use as either a standalone Legends Army or to bring as a detachment to my Alaitoc.

EDIT - Thanks 'youwashock' - that did the trick!

More pics to come soon. As stated, i'm currently waiting for the Void Dragon Phoenix Bomber. There's technically a difference between a normal Phoenix Bomber and a Void Dragon one, it has a few more gems on it from what I can find out online. Anyways, it's been in the post for about 2 months now... any day... I really hope to have it sooner rather than later as I have a game coming up. In this instance, the Corsairs will team up with some Dark Eldar to take on Alaitoc Eldar (yeah me and a mate are using my two armies to play with )

Here is a pic of what I used for the Jet Packs. If anyone would like a copy of the file, please PM me and we can exchange emails and i'll shoot it through to you.

Thanks

So i'm still waiting for a few of the more purely Corsair related items to come in the mail. I'm really keen to paint this Phoenix Bomber.. It's going to look so awesome.

I've been stripping my old Dark Eldar. They had a pretty bad paintjob on them from about 10 years ago or so. I'm painting them in a black and red theme much like the Corsairs. The paintjob on them is pretty basic and average, but they are a quick fix for something that was a lot worse...

I don't know what i'm going to do for the bases. I was thinking classic old Goblin Green with flock or something? Open to ideas.

Also, if you're not sure what is a good paint stripper, try Isopropyl Alcohol. I bought 5 litres from Ebay and it cost about $40 AUD delivered. I've used probably about 300ml for 50 minis, so seems good value.

Anyways, this is what I have so far...

Also, here are the Dark Eldar Kablites to be done. Probably about 3k pts all up sitting on the shelf that needs to be stripped.

So far that's two projects on the go and not too much gathering dust. I might take an audit of what is on sprue/grey and make sure I get it all done. I know for a fact the missus is getting me a whole heap of CSM stuff for Xmas, so I really wanna have a clean slate for that project next year Oh and some Mordor MESBG things laying around... in good time!

She's here! The Phoenix Bomber. To the Corsairs, this couldn't have come quicker. The Void Dreamer had promised firepower for a planned engagement with the Imperium, and things were looking bleak...

But finally the sky tore open with the sound of pure Eldar lethality!

- I think the person who painted this before me did a really nice job. Unfortunately the paintwork has flaked in a few areas. Furthermore, I want to paint the yellow and white black with some gold trim. I reaaallly want to keep that scaled theme. Looks like some sort of brown base with two types of red for the scale. If I had to guess, I'd say the brown is either Rhinox Hide or Dyrad Bark, and the reds are Khorne Red & Mephiston Red. I also really like the green gems and they will stay that way I reckon.

Overall, I now have to decide to either touch it up, including the chipped parts, or to strip the whole thing. Leaning towards a touch up, but it would also be a shame not to put some effort into this thing. I also would probably like to change the base. Not that it isn't cool and not that I don't love that it's a wrecked Space Wolves ship, but I just think it detracts from the model. I'll look for a normal flying base.

Anyways.... Game this Saturday, going up against my mates Admech (same guy who plays Space Wolves). I know i'm gonna get smashed, but you just never know. I know that this thing will likely be shot out of the sky, but at -1 to hit with 6+ invuln, if I can get 2 rounds of shooting out of it and if it absorbs some firepower, it will have done it's job. Couple of MSU squads of Skyreavers running around with their 16" movement, with custom traits to get cover bonuses if more than 12" away and a 6+ invuln may annoy him a bit. I think they'll go hard with Engage on All Fronts and Retrieve Octarius Data.

Next week, this thing gets painted

Progress on the Phoenix Bomber.

Decided the base it came with was a bit much. The surface area was just too big, and none of the bases for my army have anything like it, so I ditched that.

I created a base out of plaster. I used jigsaw to cut it to size, copying a flyers base size from my Hemlock. I then sprayed it black a few times and used a varnish to seal the porous edge. After that I simply drilled a hole and planted the rod with some glue, which connects to a magnet holder the previous owner had attached.

I used Isopropyl Alcohol and heaps of elbow grease to get this thing down to a level of grey i'm happy with. The cockpit wouldn't budge. It's black and not flaking so I left it. Around the hard to scrub edges I used this cheap little rotary tool with a brush to get off stubborn bits. The brush basically became a grinder in the end, and it worked well.

All up probably about 3-4 hours of solid work. I start 7 days of night shift tomorrow night, so I will have plenty of time to get stuck into painting this thing during the day. It'

So I got stuck into painting this Phoenix over the last 3 days.

Here are some pics at various stages.

I'm calling the top of the bomber done. Now I just need to do the bottom and the base.

Phoenix Bomber is completed. Quite happy with how it turned out. I'm a bit of a rushed painter, not because I dislike painting, but because the longer I linger on something, the more mistakes I make.

Here are a few shots of the beast. It will make a welcome addition to Eldar forces and hopefully send a few wolves crying and running.

On more news, 3 x Wasp Assault Walkers arrived a few days ago. I've put 1 of them together. The casts are pretty good and I will start assembling the rest of them.

Looking ahead, i'll need to start thinking about ordering some Falcons...

I'm liking the scheme on the vehicles so far. It comes across very clearly on those broad surfaces.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Thanks for the kind words on the Bomber guys.

I wish my camera was better, I have a really old phone so maybe i'll invest in a little lighting or use the missus' phone.

Thanks again - more to come

Nice job on the Phoenix. Big fan of the green for a spot color.

Thanks again for the nice comments on the bomber scheme. I do agree the green helps it out a lot.

Onto the Wasp Assault Walkers. I've started assembling the other two. Going to have three all up. These guys will be great on secondaries like Engage on all Fronts. In a pure Craftworld list, these fall into Heavy Support, but in Corsairs they fall into fast attack. I'd potentially run three separately in an Outrider Detachment and just have them camp in the table quarters for 50 pts each, racking up secondary points.

I predict I will have 1 painted by this time next week for sure, and then the two others pretty quickly thereafter.

I'm having a game this weekend against Blood Angels, and the Phoenix Bomber and Skyreaver Bands are going to make an appearance...

Back again.

So here are three assembled and primed Wasp Assault Walkers. 1 of these will be painted within 48 hrs as a template for the other two. Likely going to put the red on the gun cases and red on the back tail fin primarily, and the canopy with be red as it is with the Phoenix Bomber. Usual gold trim and green gems too! Check out the cool classic 'Bubble' type canopy!

I also had a game today with my Craftworld Eldar with Corsair Allies. The Corsair Skyreaver Bands and the Phoenix Bomber got involved. The Phoenix Bomber popped open a Repulsor and mowed down some marines which was nice. Aside from anything, it was a big bullet soak, forcing the Blood Angels player to commit what limited firepower he had against it at -1 to hit natively, and a 6+ invuln I threw on it as a custom trait. The Skyreavers did their job and camped a few objectives, performed actions and engaged on all fronts. Very fun game even if I did lose... (72-80).

I thought i'd also throw in a pic of my workspace. I always like seeing other peoples work spaces to see where all the work happens, so here's mine too. Few little Craftworld & Corsair things happening here including some Vypers for my main army.

More painted things to come... I want to play a full Corsair Legends Army within the next 3 months for sure so need to keep on going.
