Since i don't see any spirit stones on the clowns, I assume they don't enter the infinite circuit? Right/wrong?!?!

Harlequins do not live on Craftworlds so it is unlikely that they enter the Infinity Circuit upon death. Instead their souls are probably taken by Ceogorach and kept somewhere in the Webway or Black Library.

Is it grimdark that the terrifying ninja murder clowns possibly turn into spectral librarians upon their demise? My brain is having difficulty processing the implications of that…

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

:( :( :( :( :( I'm a sad panda now! Have to do some major rethinking then, had hoped to write some Dance of Death with a clown spirit in a craftworld.

Thanks anyways!

Harlequins do not wear spirit stones. They recruit from all the other Eldar societies, with the new recruits often vanishing with little to no warning to others, and Craftworld recruits leave their spirit stones behind. The Harlequins believe their souls will join with the Laughing God and so they do not fear death the way the other Eldar do (except the Ynnari).

It’s a big universe, and strange things happen all the time.

While the normal order of things is that the laughing god collects the harlie’s souls, it’s not like they are incompatible with soul stones. They just don’r need them in order not to be eternally tormented by She Who Thirsts.

If the big joker had some plan that needed one of his to spend some time in the infinity circuit, that could probably be arranged.

It’s not normal, but not outside the scope of a story, done right.

*Cegorach, not Sheogorath as in The Elder Scrolls, although they do have similarities...

Harlies do seem to value other eldar's spirit stones, though. I'm reading the Path of the Dark Eldar series right now, and at one point a harlequin requests that some dark eldar return the ensouled spirit stones they stole from dead exodites before he will help them find their way out of an unfamiliar dimension.

Clown to librarian is indeed a rather counter-intuitive career move.

Cadians, Sisters of Battle (Argent Shroud), Drukhari (Obsidian Rose)

“Clown” in the modern sense, yes. Telling jokes, tossing pies, or getting tossed around at rodeos.

Harlis are traveling troupes of players, telling stories of myth and legends of their people, keeping it alive in an oral/theatrical tradition. The line between historians who’s vector to their audience is dance and a librarian is much closer.

That's... a very good point, actually.

By the way, the harlequins are directly inspired by Italian commedia dell'arte: travelling theater troupes, often wearing masks during their performances. It's mostly improvised theatre so it uses a lot of stock characters, like Arlecchino, the guy wearing the colorful checkered outfit.

When we say "clown" we usually think of circus clowns, whose role is to act like idiots to keep the audience entertained between other acts.
