Hi guys,

i recently started again with reading/hearing horus heresy books. Due to this i also browsed threw my forge world books and made a (for me) irestating discovery.

Why are the White Scars and Imperial Fists distrusted allies on the matrix ?
Is there a story behind this resp. where can i find it ?

I really thought i know quite every feud/rivalry between the legions but this is new for me ... hope you can enlighten me

Best regards
Saftsack

The Scars are often regarded by most of the Legions to be nothing more than barbarians like the Wolves or World Eaters. The Khan didn't really care and wanted to be away from the middle of all the squabbling and infighting of his brothers.
They weren't trusted because nobody knew them well enough, apart from Horus and Magnus.
I cannot recommend reading Scars enough, it rounds the Legion and the Khan out brilliantly.

I too recommend reading all of Chris Wraight's White Scars books, all really good reads and well worth it. Up there with Abnett and ADB for me.
Scars, Path of Heaven and Warhawk are the three.

I'm not sure if that explains the above though, especially as Dorn was not on bad terms with Russ.

The allies matrix isn't really a perfect portrayal of the Scars because in said book recommendations, it's made very clear that none of the Legions trust them and TBH it should reflect that of the Thousand Sons or Word Bearers. It's much more a balancing mechanic with a little bit of background thrown in.

Don't forget there was also an intent of fighting styles and doctrines behind the matrix iirc.

Imagine a IF commander suddenly being told his left flank of his secure gunline is now no longer secured but was last seen haring off over the horizon.

Conversely, the WS commander has scoffed at being asked to have his warriors stand like statues when the orks are RIGHT THERE and a lightning strike and encirclement now is the clear course of action.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

The early allies matrix is based on the Great Crusade-era mindset of the legions, not during the Heresy and not the mindset of the primarchs, but the predominant culture of the legion.

So it makes sense that certain relationships may not be exactly what you expect just reading the novels.
