The pom poms can come off and be a choking hazard? I guess if you have very small kids, that could be an issue. Seems a bit trivial for a recall, but safety first I guess.

It could be the little yellow ones around the side rather than the big ones on the antlers. Those small ones could be more of a threat for young children to swallow. But even the larger ones could squash down enough in a mouth to be swallowed then cause an obstruction.

A shame, but at least GW are taking it seriously with the return. Much better safe than sorry

Well, poop.

Good thing I don't have children. Maybe I'll just cut the pom poms once Christmas has passed.

Clearly you haven't seen the thousands of posts on social media going roughly like "My 4 years old toddler just painted his first Warhammer miniature!!11'1!!"

Unlike plushies, they are directly marketed to over-12s (if i recall?).

Anyway, it's so nice of GW to consider manchildren's safety

Yeah but those are supervised situations. Stuffed toys are the kind of thing that might be left with unsupervised kids even younger.

Ork creature and/or technology unsafe? Seems legit.

I wouldn't hand any of my plushies to a toddler either.
I'm wondering if there's something else wrong with the squigs akin to the later 4de My Little Radioactive Pony plushies that's stopping them from just remarketing them as adult collectables. Realistically I know it's likely because some involved country's law forbids that in one way or another, possibly because the tag says "dude just give this to your kid it'll be fine" and they'd have to replace the tags, but that won't stop me from wondering.

Hopefully this means their next plushies will have a sturdier, more robust design suitable for cuddles and children. Like a dreadnought. Dreadnoughts are sturdy.

The choking hazard aspect sounds like a cover story to me.

If they're asking everyone to cut off the tags, cut off the tail and photograph all the parts - including the interior stuffing - that tells me they're more interested in knowing what was inside each plushie before they get returned. Possibly some of the first batch were used for illegal drug smuggling? Or contain hazardous materials? :O

Of course in reality we all know the true reason is that one or more Bouncas have been possessed by actual Squig demons and have been wreaking havoc across the world.

NEVER GET YOUR BOUNCA WET OR FEED HIM AFTER MIDNIGHT! O.O

Cutting tags and that is likely to ensure someone claiming a refund doesn’t have a complete Squig and the refund.

Exactly. Its cheaper for GW to ask owners who want a refund to destroy the toy and provide proof than it is for GW to have to send out free shipping labels - since its a recall and they are duty bound by distance selling regulations to pay for postage. In the end customers have no toy and GW has the proof it was destroyed and then disposed of. Considering they likely made and a sold a lot of these, whilst it won't be crippling for GW, its still going to be a significant cost to just refund people so finding a way to avoid spending more per toy is a smart move.

I think they'd have a little more consumer problems if the squig was real...

If you flick through product recalls, it's a pretty common one. Item either is designed for kids or simply could be perceived as being designed for kids, but is decided to be too easy to break into smaller components that could become choking hazards.

I saw one where a battery powered device had a battery door that was too easy for kids to open, so it was recalled.
