Hi all,

Used to be really into the hobby, moreso the painting and modelling, and now I want to sell my 40k army.

I have a carry case with custom foam cutouts for all the models and the following units. I think they are all painted to a good, but certainly not pro, standard. Primarily Asuryani, Iyanden theme, with a few Dark Eldar Wyches and Haemonculus I painted for a kill team.

Link to photos of models and custom carry case: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13kAzKaKknE6J-s2qZhBVbgM1PDbwnZID?usp=sharing

Asuryani:
- 1 Farseer on jetbike
- 3 Scatterbikes
- 6 Dire Avengers
- 5 Warp Spiders
- 6 Swooping Hawks
- 5 Wraithguard
- 5 Fire Dragons
- 6 *converted* Shining Spears
- 1 Wave Serpent
- 1 Crimson Hunter

Dark Eldar:
- 10 Wyches
- 1 Haemonculus

Custom carry case: Battlefoam PACK 432
- 3 custom foam shelves - perfectly fits army with more space to spare!

I would really appreciate your inputs on:

- How you would sell this (job lot or unit by unit)?
- How much you would ask for units?
- If you would describe these as well-painted (or what other term would you use)

Of course, if you're interested, please do PM me as I do ultimately want to sell these

While I won't claim to be any expert on the subject, I would say those look to be roughly Parade Quality paintjobs. Possibly even lower level Display Quality on some models. They're certainly to a quality I would be proud of putting on display at my local stores.

If I were you, I would probably try to sell for at least retail value for the entire army. You've obviously put a lot of effort and time into it and you clearly have the skills to back it up. More if they want to try and split it up, as generally buying a large quantity at once like that comes with some sort of discount for quantity and you want to dissuade cherry-picking that will leave you stuck with the less desirable units.

Take of it what you will, however I highly suggest looking up sold listings on ebay to see what kind of prices similar size and quality armies command on the open market. Make sure to take note of shipping as well when you do that, as some will upcharge and offer free shipping while others will price normally and put shipping on the buyer to ensure they don't lose out. Such a large quantity can have surprisingly high shipping.

Selling that, you add in how much you bought it for, the work time, supplies, and effort you put into it, and add in for what tax and S and H will cost you, otherwise, you are just giving it away.

An Example- A squad of guardians
Cost you bought it for- ( my example is from gw web store) $40.00
Supplies (I add in a little to offset the paint and brushes and glue price, roughly 10-20 bucks, ymmv. $20.00
8 hours or so to paint- 8-80 bucks, depending. $20.00
you guys got a vat tax, we got state tax, so Ymmv.(18%) $14.40

then Postage and handling, say 25-30 bucks $30.00

I hope that helps.

I don't think you're going to get triple basic retail for any of that as Grot 6 suggests. More likely is somewhere just above retail.

The painting is decent, certainly a long way above most "fully painted" listings you often see. Sometimes that's off-putting to buyers as it doesn't fit with their own army so can be more hassle to strip and paint but I think anyone looking for a starting Eldar army would probably be happy enough to grab this. I'd definitely try to sell units individually as this usually gets you better value than selling as one lot, since you're opening up your potential market much more. Start the bidding maybe just below retail would be my advice.

NE Ohio, USA

Looks pretty good. A bit above retail (remember to count the case/foam). Probably less than double.

I'd sell the Dark Eldar off separately.

While I won't argue that it's more likely to get more from selling each unit separately, because they are already painted, you will likely end up underselling the more common and thus less desirable units for the same reason that Slipspace pointed out; if it doesn't fit their army rather than adding value, the value will actually drop as they then have to spend the time and effort to strip them. In my experience, if you want to move the whole army, it will generally even out selling as a lot vs individually, and it will likely take a lot more time to move everything individually as people will buy the best units and you'll be stuck with the rest until you lower the price well below retail. If someone is going to strip it, they'll buy the box new from a 3rd party retailer at a 15% or better discount off GWs price before they buy your units to clean if you don't significantly beat that price.

I agree. Those would likely do better as a separate sale unless one person asks for both.

That's a fully painted, ready to go army he has here. You'll get what I got for mine. Same as I said.

You have to add in the hidden factors. They don't come for free.

You put all those factors into the price, plus or minus what else factors in your particular market

The added costs are hidden. When you post the price, show the pictures, the market takes it from there.

You ask for 3 times the price, you get twice the price- So it is Written, So it is Done.

Of course, if you are used to giving away your work, go ahead and send it to me. I'll give you 20.00 for the lot.

Slipspace didn't see where there was tax, and S and H involved. More then likely, they are used to taking that one on the chin... Not me. That's going into the price.

S and H is your worst factor in the price.

He doesn't need to charge tax for this in the UK

Where are you planning on selling it RooT? ebay or local?

eBay for sure - I've actually ended up listing them all on eBay with a starting price of near-retail. Hoping to shift these! haha
