Hello there. I have played only Kill Team and Warcry with friends, now I want to delve in the 40K world for good.

I really like the Adeptus Mechanicus, mostly because videogames and lorewise, even if I started with Heavy Intercessors in my Kill Team Games I want to delve with the Machine God.

Any suggestions? I saw on the GW store there is a Combat Patrol with some Skitarii and some nice tanks, is it a good start?

Thanks in advice

best start would currently be the Omnissiahs Talons Battlebox.
Builds a very nice, battleforged list with units that are good and useful currently with good savings.

I think it comes out at... 520 pts?

the admech are currently one the best factions on the tourney scene, though they have faded a little due to repeated nerfs and tweaks, they are still regularly getting top 5 finishes.

however, they are not that easy to play at the lower level, they have a lot of special rules to keep track off, and two separate turn by turn buff systems that affect different parts of the army. when you get good and can juggle these extra rules and stack the synergies at the right time, you can be extemely hard to beat, but as a new player just be prepared to have a lot of "overhead" thinking to do on top of just moving, shooting and fighting the models.

just had a look at the deal set you bought. the skitari are your core troops, and i would build them as rangers (the hooded build option), which will give them ranged firepower to stay back and shoot with. built all three special weapons for them, they are all currently useful. the sciarian melee unit is not bad either, i think opinion is split on which build is better. I prefer the inflitraitors with the sword/gun combo, pre-game move and the ability to block re-rolls (which can be very powerful against some armies), but many people like the pure melee ruststalkers as well. the flyers are generally recommended to be the flamer armed varient that can drop down and burniate the countryside, as the gun armed version is rather lacklustre shooting due to the low strenght.

the robo cavalry is definitely better as the raiders type, they are cheap, able to screen and surprisingly durable. they make a great "mischief" unit to get forward early and screw with the enemies plans and force him to attack these relitively disposable cav rather than other guys who are free to shoot.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.
