Subject: [Miniwargaming/Lazy squire games] Ravaged star miniature line.
Now to be a full fledge Mini line !
Dave from Miniwargaming did a stream a few days ago to do giveaways for their previous campaign about new not-chaos-space-marines and showcased concept art for a not-squat faction and a not-tyranids faction.
Images for the concept art aren't available on their own yet. I'll post them when they are.

Followed, some interesting takes on evil star conquering warriors. Hopefully they make .stl files available later to print and expand the range.

Not many poses either and I'm wary of PVC though I'm sure it will do well if the material has meant the price-point is reasonable. Some of the cultists are pretty decent. Good luck to them.

My main problem with PVC is pre-assembled PVC which is very popular with boardgames. The main issue is that pre-assembled means mould lines in really hard to reach spots
I can guarantee the majority of the detail WILL be there, having gotten some of the sample PVC from Lazy Squire's Stormsunder game.
At work on my phone so I can't grab a link right now, but I know I posted a video a while back of some final samples I received from them.
This is a cool move. Lazy Squire has some great art direction and some wizards working the machines to manufacture, and without having a board game tied up with this it's just boxing everything up and sending it out basically. I'll definitely be keeping my eyes on this one.
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
Seems odd for them given their focus on GW products. You wouldn't think the powers that be would appreciate this.

100% this. Unless MWG is trying to step away from GW games... I cannot see this ending well for them.
I think he believes he can work around it like the video he did of the guy who scratch build a whole counts as Ork army 60K points or so. If he was already hemmed in by their rules about what he can post or if they have stopped sending him free stuff then maybe this is a response, not sure though.

Maybe. Not really the same situation though. The guy who was scratch building and now selling completed models isn't a person you go to looking for GW news, product sneak peaks, or GW game battle reports on YouTube or through their premium subscription service.
The guy making Orks, is just a dude making cool Ork minis. Maybe like you said, if MWG is no longer getting early access to free product, this feels a little less dangerous of a move... I just don't see setting yourself up for another Chapter House type mess selling knock-off GW products a wise move for a business.
It isn't like GW won't send free product to "competitors". Look at Ash from GMG. He has written rules sets sold by another company than GW, but they still send him stuff because he isn't directly competing against GW by making styled minis.
This just seems like a very strange business decision to me.

That was exactly the word I used when looking at them. I find a lot of the "high-end" 3rd party figure companies make their figures way too busy looking. Clearly there is talent behind these, it just doesn't capture my attention (though I do have ADHD so that could be why).

Yeah, no. MWG never did GW games only and they always advertized third party terrain and alternative miniatures. They're also pretty open to critisize what they dislike about GWs rules (You hardly find batreps from Matt or dave that use the actual rules for stratagems for example). 40K and AoS are what gets them the most money so that's what gets their most coverage, but they also featured extensive Bolt Action and this is not a test during the last months, though.

I guess my response would be: How much free stuff does he get compared to how much money could he make?
If we take GW's latest win one of everything we make next year free contest as a metric, then with the prize estimate being (if I recall correctly) maxed at $10K. So he might lose out on getting $10K retail worth of free stuff. If he has any sort of partnerships (I don't follow him, so I don't know) then he is probably getting 30% off of that. With a lot of that just being reboxed start collectings into combat patrols or other duplicate stuff I figure he might lose out on $4-5K worth of materials.
I'm pretty sure there will be enough demand for these models where he could easily make that amount of money in profit while getting his own game content out there. If this is just his first step and he can do enough knock offs to have 4-6 armies and a decent game out there in a few years it could really be worth it.
I'm sure lawyers have been consulted, and with the groundwork done by the Chapterhouse Studios lawsuit, I don't think he will have too hard of a time defending his generic space barbarians.
He can still do GW content, but this could also show that he is ready to break out from their shadow. With a lot of changes from GW since they started the Warhammer+ channel, he may have needed to start making some changes to his offerings.

Never said they ONLY do GW games, but GW games have been their main focus when I was still watching their battle reports.

Most tend to use a superglue or something similar so if there's ever a pre-assembled PVC mini you want just put it in the freezer for 30-60min and then twist the join you want to break and it should just come right off.

I don't like the models. At all. Chaos stuff already look among the worst models in the GW roster IMHO and those models are definitely too detalied for my taste. Their aesthetics is much more cartoon/videogame oriented than GW sculpts, which is another feature I strongly dislike. Technically those models are awesome, it's their design that I don't like.
Miniwargaming guys are a lot of fun however. So I don't care about the miniatures but the campaign could easily be solid entertainment anyway.

Yeah, when I paint Chaos marines, I want to lean hard into the grimy and weathered, veterans of the long war kind of aesthetic, not some kind of anime influenced OMG this character suddenly grew tentacles and crab claws lol

It felt kind of like some of the transformations from anime shows and films. Obviously you may disagree, but that's the kind of stylised art vibe I get from it, and it doesn't work for me.
