Hey everyone,

I think I must have dreamed this because I can't find information about it anywhere, but:

Do the Adeptus Titanicus have an infantry division?

I seem to remember in Dan Abnet's "Titanicus" that they did, and that the infantry were some kind of weird cyborg-super-soldier thing. But I can't seem to find any information on them, even what they were called! I also don't have my copy of "Titanicus" anymore either... so am I just remembering wrong?

Help me out!

Short answer - yes! Some are supported by their Forge Word's Skitarii Legions, and others have their own dedicated Secutarii Legions.

Developed in the lost and ancient days long before the Imperium, the Secutarii Titan Guard were created as the honour guard and protectors of the Titan Legions. For while a Battle Titan might shatter a mighty fortress or blast a tank company to ruin, it is the role of the Secutarii to eradicate such threats its survivors might still pose as the Titans press on to more important targets, and to hunt down and slay those who seek to flee from the Machine God’s wrath.

Titan Guard, servitors and Techpriests although often Titans will rely on support from the Astra Militarum if they don't have their own ground troops to spare.

I was gonna say the "infantry" for Titans in the fluff has been Knights once or twice.

But if you mean literal humanoid ants that squabble around the feet of the God machines, then yes. Likely either Ad Mech or Guard.

Or Chaos Cultists, depending on which god you voted for in the last election, 10k years ago.

Aren't the Secutarii Hoplites and Peltasts the Titan Legion's infantry?

Rule wise? I think they are?
Personally i would love to see this idea of milita support being added into the knight codex, giving htem access to like guardsmen infentry units for support.

They could do something with Knights of the Cog along the lines of Brood Brothers - taking Skitarii or Guard but capped at 25% of the total points.

My own idea was for the Secutarii (thanks again for giving me their name!) to be in the new Knights Codex along with a new plastic kit for them.

I was thinking have it be that for every super-heavy you take in a detachment you can have one unit of Secutarii without it taking up a detachment slot. That way you are encouraged to take larger units of infantry, you have something in your army aside from superheavies, and it's thematic as well!

The Titan Legions are part of the Adeptus Mechanicus, thus they have access to all of their forces too. Each legion will have some dedicated ground forces, plus whatever their home forge sees fit to give them.

Aren't all Titan FWs basically the most heavily defended sectors in that specific galaxy? I.e at least a full chapter of some nearby Astartes, Legions of Planetary Guard, likely whatever a "legion sized" force of Skitarri is, and likely a few regiments of actual full fledged Guard/Tempestus? I'm not able to draw on sources, except Armageddon, which I don't think was a titan FW.

Actually now that I think about it, there is really only 1 real Titan FW that is still functional, right? Mars? All others are just retrofit or repair places. The Warlord and the Warhound are from the DaOT, and there patterns lost. Same with Imperators/Emperor class.

So really it's just Mars, and that's it. Please tell me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure both Warlords and Warhounds are still in production, and that there are other Forge Worlds still producing titans. Lucius still produces Warlords, Warhounds, and Reavers.

The domains of the Adeptus Mechanicus are a law unto themselves and they try to rely on outside influence as much as possible. The knowledge held within the vaults of a Forge World are more important than any of the tech, soldiers, or machines present at any given time and the Priests of the Mechanicus protect it viscously. The Mechanicus protect their own worlds with their own troops and only in times of serious need do they call upon the wider Imperium. Not all Forge Worlds maintain a Titan Legion but most do or at least can refit and rearm Titans (actually this can be done in the field and only serious repairs require a Forge World). Lucius, Ryza, Graia, and Gryphonne all maintain Titan Legions and huge armies of Skitarii.
The only thing the Mechanicus relies upon from the Imperium is resources and Navigators, everything else they already have.

Well, the existence of Lucius-pattern warlords implies Lucius still builds them. Equally, in the game Space Marine, Graia has "strategic value absolute" because warlord titans are listed amongst its products. Whilst most titans are Mars pattern, not all Mars-pattern titans are built on Mars.

I think it's fair to assume that only 'big name' forges are able to produce titans in legio strength, though, and there certainly all heavily protected.

And yes, Secutarii are a titan defence force. Notice that they have the [Legio] keyword, not [Forge World], for precisely this reason.

Why would the Secutarii be in the Knights codex...?

Anyways, per the Kill Team backgrounds, the Secutarii are not just consisting of the Peltasts or Hoplites. It's an honorific that can include "basic" Skitarii types as well.

Or they could not and say they did!

Lorewise, the Knights of both Mechanicus and Imperialis alignments actually have their own "household troops". There's art of them in the core rulebook for 40k.

Indeed, but its not a black and white thing. Warlord is more of a classification of vehicle, not a make and model. A Warlord made on X planet is going to be different from one made on planet Y. Lots of Forge Worlds have their own local design, but also make designs from other places.

Think of Titans like naval ships from the late 1800s and early/mid 1900s. Each country had many different classes of ships for each type. Older designs of ships would get retrofitted with new technology to keep them useful while new designs were also made. Now imagine doing the same thing, but to the same ship, for thousands of years.

The short answer is yes. The long answer is they were tribesmen fighting in the shadow of their god.
They were tribal, lots of feathers and hoots and much more interesting than the Skitarii.
But GW got rid of that idea cause it seemed a bit racist, I guess.
Think ants trying to stop other ants climbing up legs and killing big ant was their job.

Or that the Skitarii models released were far more generic in design and therefore worked within the GW design philosophy of "here's your basic models do what you want". I never really saw the descriptions of older Skitarii (like the ones in the Ultramarines series) as anything but a quirk of the Magos that created them. I just imagined they found a less developed world that worshiped the Machine God and took its best Warriors to be soldiers of the Omnissiah. Bugger, now I want to do that.

The plastic Skitarii kit are 'Mars' type - they have bionic legs from walking the radioactive deserts, for example. Many FWs copy them to show loyalty to Mars.

Nah. The plastic Skitarii kit are not just that.

It's what they decided they wanted to use as a standardized template. Considering before "Skitarii" was used as a catch-all for everything from weird hulking abominations with cannons for arms to Guardsmen with targeters bolted to the side of their head and some random augmentations?

Can't blame them.

Not sure skit were even a thing at the time of Titanicus. Pretty sure people complained about that at the time.

I mean the cut legs off and replace with metal and everyone walks for mars is alright.

But a titan that had a few spikes and puffed up face. Then all its ground troops poured out with puffed up masks of your avatar, hooting and hollering.

And i think that would be super cool to have that. I just said guardsman infantry just because that would be the easiest to use for what they would get access to.

But i would love if they got some sort of guard or sketarii like infantry, some sort of armored transport, maybe an elite infantry slot or two for special weapons or melee infantry/tech priest crew. Then have it so knights loose obj secure, and have to have their supporting units gain obj sec.
Even though i know everyone back in 8th took the loyal 32 just for the bonus CP, i would love to see that kinda list be run as a normal knight list, using house milita.

It defeats the purpose of Knights as an army for those things to exist.

Period.

How so?

If anything i would think it would make them even more interesting to play then they currently are. Right now knights are very much a "Im just gonna rambo this" kinda army I feel like if you took away their ability to obsec on their big knights, and forced you to play with their milita units to hold objectives it would be both flavorful and interesting.

Like lore wise, they can absolutely assault and destroy an enemy position, but at the end of the day, no matter how much he tries, a knight cant fit through a bunker door, and would still need foot soldiers to go into and clear out said bunker.

Well GW is almost there, we use the titanicus and Aeronautica models for full on epic 40k so we have all the vehicles and infantry we want to use.

I wish GW had the gall to pull the trigger and just make epic again in 8mm scale for titanicus, then go one step further and bring back Battlefleet.

Spoiler:
Then go absolute mad man status and put out a unified campaign system that would allow for BFG, Epic, and regular 40k games, with victories in one game mode resulting in a specific mission type in the next game mode

Well, thats why i think if you had a focus on a knight milita component of the army, it would curb a lot of that "This should not be an army" idea.

If they had a rule that said 25% of your army has to be made up of house milita it would help rain that in.

I personally dont see the issue of it being an army in the game, i understand some people dont like the idea of an all knight/super heavy list, but that gak sailed a LOOOOONG time ago.

So basically, your idea is to simply add another caveat to them in the hopes of maybe curbing things.

The problem is that the militias are closer to PDFs or the old Cadian Interior Guard. They do not go off planet in large numbers.

Well i can understand you are of the opinion that "They should not exist as an army" So i dont really see the point in getting into it.

Either way i personally would like to see this idea explored a bit more.
