Played my first game of AoS yesterday - thoroughly enjoyed!

One quandary came up regarding a MW ability.

My Loonboss used his 'Stab em Good' command to give a unit of grot spider riders the ability to cause a MW on 6s.

The spider fangs already have this ability because of their spider venom.

Does the command either...

A. Only cause the MW on the grot attacks and then the spider attacks cause a single MW as standard (that's how I chose to rule it)

or

B. all the attacks cause a MW on 6s, with the spider fangs causing 2 MW on 6s

Thanks in advance

Well first up: What you did was illegal. Loonboss affects MOONCLAN GROTS. Spider riders meet just the GROT keyword. They don't have MOONCLAN keyword which is specifically the foot grots.

Now for sake of example let's assume it would be legal. Note that the spider rider rule is specifically mounts and it's on HIT roll. Command ability is for entire unit so yes it would affect both rider and spider. However it's on WOUND rolls. So how you would resolve unit with this buff on legal combo(I can't quarantee there's not another unit that could get this combo) is you attack, every 6 on hit on mount attack would be MW. Take all the hits from mounts(minus 6's) and riders and then roll for wound and every 6 to wound would be MW instead.

Also note if you have 2 or more abilities triggering on same roll you need to pick which one would take effect so 2 abilities giving MW on 6 to hit would be irrelevant. Only 1 affects. Big example of this is terrorgheist on gristlegore flesh eaters who on 6 to hit on maw needs to decide do they want just flat 6 mortal wounds or 2 hits at 3+, -2, d6 damage(note it's virtually every time you want 6 MW as even when you were wounding on 2+ and opponent would have max 5+ save aka no save after rend you would average less than 6 damage. Only when you MUST get 7+ damage in or it's useless should you take extra hit)

Ahhhhh bugger. I saw that they had the Grot keyword but yeah, missed the Moonclan part. Learning experience!

After reading your response looks like i played the venom wrong too because I was looking for 6s on the wound roll rather than hit roll.

I'll know for next time - and i'll let my opponent know too. Thanks for your help

No problem. We learn by mistakes I know I still make plenty of mistakes. I just recently learned that savage spearhead units need to be from starting army and monstorous takeover. I don't even remember how many times either me or my opponent has used summoned units(savage spearhead) or turned wizard into monster for monstorous takeover. Both which is illegal...

One would think that basics would be noticed by SOMEBODY within 6 months

6 months? HA!
The group I play a lot of boardgames with realized back in Nov. that we've been playing Carcassonne wrong for years. (definitely one, & maybe many many years)
We've been scoring the farmed fields completely wrong*. (consistent, but completely wrong) And that's an important core mechanic of that game, not one of the billion odd little expansions it has.... And we play the game. Often.

*We have a theory on that:
Spoiler:
For many years we played with one guys copy. We'll call him G. G? He had everything but a few expansions. Well, he moved away recently & took his game. So another member, D, got the current Big Box set & has been re-collecting the expansions. We're going with: We did indeed learn the correct way from the rules in G's box all those years ago. But, like WH, there's been a rules change sometime since then that's reflected in D's set.

Yeah this can be confusing (as a new gloomspite player myself) because you see MOONCLAN GROTS and you think "ah, that's the army that I am playing" when in fact Gloomspite is 4, different, far too small, gakky armies that dont interact with one another at all and don't get any of each other's bonuses.

SQUIGS dont work with TROGGS dont work with MOONCLAN dont work with SPIDERFANG, basically at all.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

This is what has kept me from buying into them so far. I adore the models, and I have Orruks, Giants and would love to get some Loons. But the army just seems so incoherent at the moment.
