Hey! I'm planning on buying the 40k starter box with some Marines and Necrons. I was thinking about adding 5 Immortals, to bring me to 23 power, because I have 23p of Slaanesh so symmetry.

Problem is, my friend has a Blood Angels Redemptor Dreadnought which totally dominated our second game. First game was really close, but they didn't use the Redemptor. My Slaanesh forces got owned, as my heaviest hitter was an Exalted Chariot.

So... What can I have for 4 power to give the Necrons a chance at taking down the Dreadnought? Immortals or something else?

Thanks in advance from a newbie!

As I recall the Redemptor Dreadnought is T7 so you'll want something stronger than Immortals to crack that shell.

If you're looking to shoot it off the board perhaps using Destroyers in the Heavy support slot.

So I could have 2 Lokhust Destroyers or 1 Heavy Lokhust and 1 standard IF I drop the Plasmacyte that's in the main box...

Thoughts?

Totaly worth it to drop the plasmacyte.
I would take the heavy and the normal one

This may be a surprise, but Scarabs with a Chronomancer. I never purchased a Chronomancer, I just sub in a techno or the plasmamancer.

I go against Iron Hands Redemptors and these guys surprise me every time!

I use the 1cp stratagem to explode one for d3, (never rolled a 1 or a 6 yet on that Strat....although I typically wait to use it until I can drop their wounds to a different bracket or kill them at the end).

The rest fight and with 4 attacks and 6s auto wound they do damage. With the 5++ from the Chronomancer I surround and bog the Redemptors down.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Best bet to pop a Redemptor would be
1 squad of 3 Gauss Destructor Lokhust Heavy Destroyers.
With My Will be done, they hit on 2s, reroll 1s.
Wounding on 3s.
You can improve the wounding by using extermination protocols to reroll to wound for 2cp.
OR
Auto wound with techno-oracular targeting for 1, roll the next two with a potential CP reroll, also for 2cp.

At AP-4 the dread won't get a save, leaving you to do 9d3 damage (Each wound averaging 6 damage, -1 from the Dreadnaught's rules, netting you 15 damage)

Bedouin Dynasty: 10000 pts
The Silver Lances: 4000 pts
The Custodes Winter Watch 4000 pts

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.

20x Necron Warriors (MWBD of course) and the disintegration capacitors stratagem is the cheap and easy way to do it. You will force more than 10+ saves each time. I wouldn't recommend normal destroyers as d3 - 1 damage will be frustrating but the Heavy Destroyers will definitely get the job done if you bring a squad.

Thanks, all! I bought a Heavy Destroyer yesterday, and I'll see how the Scarabs do. That sounds like a good plan.

It'll be a few weeks before I can buy the starter box, though. Once I've played them, I'll let you know how it went.

Friend blasted mine to near half-dead with 2 Annihilation Barges then just swept it aside with a Voidscythe Overlord next turn (Used a single Wraith to tie it up in melee before hand). Once you bracket it it becomes less of a threat it can't kill gak if it's BS/WS is 4 or 5, more so if it's trapped in melee with a tarpit unit.

To add to this, you can also use the Plasmancer that comes in the box set. That’s another 3 possible mortal wounds per round plus his lance weapon (S7 Assault D3 -3AP 2D) isn’t all that bad either. I actually use three sometimes in a group protected by thralls and just rain down fire on something big or heavy infantry. It’s a decent tactic (plus cheap on the wallet since you kind find them on eBay for $15)
