I know that it would be quite possible to gauge from looking at existing artwork, but in your own headcanon, how thick do you picture Space Marine armour?

I ask because I think I remember seeing artwork where a single menial/ servant is heaving up a pauldron to be fitted to their master and it looks to be several inches thick; essentially, almost too heavy for Joe Average to hold out with outstretched arms.

So do you imagine power armour plates to be closer to millimetres or inches thick (it's OK, I'm British, I can mix my units)? What about terminator armour?

In dark imperium guilliman says his armor (primarch armor) weighs several hundred pounds. not many references to weight of armor that i am aware of but a prim arch being that much larger than a space marine I would probably put it as maybe 200ish lbs/ 90ish kg for typical power armor. I am assuming in there that the primarch armor is maybe better materials which may weight less. So if the whole set weights that much I can't see each shoulder weighing more than 30ish lbs / 13 kg. so I don't think a person would have any issue carrying it. note a current set of combat armor that is fairly resistant to our current firearms is around 30lbs/13kg and ceramite is supposed to be stronger, lighter and more protective than anything we have, there is likely some type of future foam backing to dissipate the energy of deflected or direct hits. is the foam layer going to be thicker than current stuff? maybe idk no reference source there.

Usually a number of inches but I've seen both ludicrously thick and thin representations of it in artwork and such.

I see it as like an inch thick at the absolute maximum.

I like the notion of at least an inch thick in many places, but also that there is a lot of variance throughout the armor.

I guess I've always imagined it as being as thick as the plot needs it to be.

In the 2nd edition Angels of Death codex they state that power armour weighs over 250lbs.

After a quick google search plate armour weighs around 50lbs and was around 3mm thick (at the thickest). So 5x heavier, so maybe 5x thicker. That would make it around 15mm thick.

Maybe thinner, as ceramics are heavy. If you ever had to carry a glass table top you realise how heavy glass is.

I think about 2 and a half inches feels right.
