Hi All

Im just finishing my specters.
The last thing to do is to paint the eyes and the chest gems.

Im strugling to visualise the colour for those.

Would red work and really make it pop?
Or should I stick to the theme and go with cool blue ?

I'm inclined to go with red but really worried I will eff this up as ive spent a lot of time on these fellas haha.

Red was my knee jerk looking at pics.

Another thing to consider is army uniformity. What do your other units use? Having details match across models can help otherwise disperate aspect warrior paint jobs mesh together into a cohesive army.

My rank and file troops are all Black and yellow with blue accents.

The aspects I'm keeping as close to the original aspect colours as possible.

See FW pics for reference

I would go red with an orange highlight. Red and green can look a bit christmassy if you don't do it right. Orange will pop with that blue green for sure. If it were me I'd probably bang some rust weathering powder mixed with a dirty weathering powder onto the base around those skulls too, to really hammer it home.

Can you elaborate on this point a bit? I'm not sure I know what you mean. Like bang on a bit more texture to make it seem like they are partially buried?

Thanks QAR I am leaning towards red as well. Although I'm crap at painting eyes I think I will give it a go.

Eyes just require practice. Line them in black first, as in fill the entire lens. Then when you're doing the lens colour, use a fine tip brush, with paint thin enough to flow but not thin enough to pool. This only comes with experience and practice, and even then I still mess up sometimes. You want a tiny line of black to remain between the lens colour and the rest of the helmet to really distinguish the different areas.

What I mean by the basing stuff is using a weathering powder. They're very fine powders like chalk, which can give you various effects and make things look much more realistic. They're more a scale modelling thing but they're creeping into miniature painting and this only a good thing. The skulls are fine as they are now, but doing this would give the effect of them sitting there in the dust with it gathering around them.

I see thanks.
I haven't experimented with powders. Im set in my old school ways of sand
Care to link what you use ?

I have been using baking powder and superglue to get a smoother grain on bases but haven't done it in this case these skulls. Was initially planning on drowning the base in UV green resin to give the effect that they are floating over a industrial toxic pool filled with remains but decided against because it would be too much.

Sand is still fine. I use it as a sort of filler/texture/cement material when I'm making bases. The powders are applied last, once thhe painting is complete, to give dusty or dirty appearances. You can get them from anywhere. I have Vallejo, ak interactive, humbrol. I think I even have a forge world powder, but they don't make them any more.

Thanks. I did a bit of experimentation with the powders. Think it definitely enriched these models

Thanks!!
