Greetings,

Many of us know Victrix LTD. due to their large and growing range of historical plastic model kits. They are always coming out with new kits for us to play games with. Let's use this thread to talk about what is new with Victrix Unlimited (Victrix) and their kits.

To kick us off, I have two pieces of news:

1. Victrix is working on a mounted archer set and has shown some renders off online. I saw them on Instagram, but did not catch a screenshot. If anyone has one let me know.

They recently also released some Dark Age Archers, so this is inline with what they have been creating. The Dark Age line has been getting some love over the last year or two.

Edit: Found the pics here: http://wargameterrain.blogspot.com/2022/05/victrix-new-plastic-ancient-horse.html

2. Prices will be going up 10% as of June 1st, 2022. Therefore, if you are planning a large Victrix order, now is the time to act. I received this via E-mail from Victrix directly.

What do you know? Do you have a shot of the mounted archers? Post it up if you do please!

The price hike doesn’t thrill me, but at least they are starting from decently low prices.

Yeah, I've never really looked into their products before, so I just went to their website. "$41 for some Vikings?! Oh, there are 60 dudes in that box. Nice."

I am a big fan of Victrix and their products. Seems like prices everywhere a rising rapidly, state of international economics it would seem, but Victrix provides good value for money. Their most recent Dark Ages sets are brilliant and convert well for other purposes.

Keep in mind those are now-extinct forest elephants, smaller than African or Indian elephants.

Still not a terrible price for units I'm guessing you're not very often going to field more than a few of in this scale - for elephant-heavy mass battles, something like 10 or 15mm scale would no doubt be better.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I have some photos of the war elephants mixing it up in Wars of the Republic. You can get an idea of their scale vs. other Victrix models.

My interest is in their 10mm WW2 plastics. Even if they go up in prices, still a good value. Have not seen new release announced in a bit, so wondering if it's getting scaled back due to the ongoing worldwide problems.

$32 is a good price for 2 elephants... but $20 shipping to me, (Md, USA) not so good. I did get some Dacians off ebay though.

They have two suppliers in the US that you can get Victrix products from.

One is the Michigan Toy Soldier company and..... dang..... the name is escaping me now!

I have used both for my Republican Roman forces and was happy with the results. One of the units was on back-order and I gave up hope, but they got it to me!

@Carlovonsexron - Sorry, no idea. I am just a guy on the internet and not really associated with Victrix.

If you are into Nappies, the French Dragoons are on pre-release....

They also come with a bearskin hat too.

Personally, I have decided to keep my mitts off Nappies for this year.... but next year maybe different! However, this did remind me of the time i designed a Codex; Rough Riders for 5th or 6th edition 40K. This kit would have helped that dream come true!

Greetings All,

I just got a nice email from Victrix letting me know about a new army deal they have released for the Persians. It is 1 each of their Persians kits for 135 Pounds.

The deal seems to go through July 26th. So, if this is something that is of interest to you, head over to their site for I guess.

Until next time.

Apologies for the dumb question, but are there preferred rule sets for these minis? Victrix makes great models at low cost, but I have no idea how to start. I know Warlord has some books, do people just use those? Are there good "Ancients" rule sets that people tend to coalesce around? I'd like to get into historicals, especially in the ancient world, but I haven't found a good on-ramp.

Most miniatures outside of the GW sphere are ruleset independent, you use them for whatever ruleset you want.

The big ancients rulesets right now seem to be Saga and whatever Warlords offering is. Theres some Osprey blue book rulesets out there that might be appropriate, IIRC Lion Rampant 2.0 is suitable for ancients, and our own Easy E has a ruleset or two that might suit your needs, iirc Men of Bronze is one of them.

Right on, I'm just trying to figure out what the best rule sets are, which have the most adoption, etc. Thanks for the recommendations – I'll check them all out!

There's also Warhammer Historical games, if you want something that plays kinda similar to WHFB/40k (depending on the era), but with historical armies. Those games cover everything from 3000Bc, all the way up to the World Wars. (i think there might even be a Vietnam, but I can't remember, it's been a hot minute and I don't have it in my small folder) If you even want some old, old school GW historical models, wargames foundry is what spun off of the historical division (predating the actual warhammer historical games by several decades) if you're interested in that.

No idea of the state of the communities for those however, still you might be able to get people to play with you more willingly if it's similar to what they've played in the past.

Warhammer Historicals are long out of print, and depending on the rulebook you are trying to acquire can cost a small fortune to obtain - unless you're okay with illicitly obtained scans of the rulebooks lol

Well, that is a tough question and to be honest, the best bet is to go down to the local venue and ask what people are playing.

If no one is playing anything, than it will be up to you to get an Ancients scene started. TO do that you will need one set of rules and two armies.

Some popular rulesets for Ancients that I have seen out there are:

-Saga- Age of Hannibal
-Hail Ceasar
-L'Art de Guerre
-De Bellis Antiquitas (DBA)
-To the Strongest
-Warhammer Ancient Battles (WAB)

Since I have a personal connection to them, I also see a lot of Wars of the Republic and Men of Bronze from Osprey.

Others include:
-Clash of Spears
-Impetus
-War and Conquest
-Swordpoint
-Clash of Empires
- Sword and Spear
-Strength and Honor
-Warmaster Ancients

There are almost as many spins on the genre as their are model ranges. So, check out what your local scene is doing first, and if there is no local scene; make it yourself.

Of course, those

Frankly, i just tried to purchase a few boxes of plastics from their webstore, and they wanted $29 for shipping to the us.

all shops in the US are not in-line with the prices on victrix' webstore. in fact, i saw the late roman unarmored infantry for $48 when it was $33 on the victrix site.

I collect:

Grand alliance death (whole alliance)

Stormcast eternals

Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

I hope that there will also be unarmoured crossbowmen available because I prefer the proportion of mail-armoured ones to be relatively low next to the lighter and unarmoured ones.
