Hullo folks!

So i recently acquired the 3rd edition Inqiusition codexes, and I'm currently planning out a Daemonhunters army. If possible, i'd appreciate any sort of tips both for playing and list building, (I.E. trap options, particularly bad choices, etc.) and a couple of questions I'd appreciate the answers to.

1) Is Smash-Captain Inquisitor Lord possible? My Current loadout is DaemonHammer, Power Weapon, Digital Weapons, Artificer armor, Icon of the Just, Hammerhand and Word of the Emperor, backed up with 3 Power-weapon acolytes and 3 Crusaders.

2) Chimera's or Rhinos? Which is more generally useful, which is more specific? Which is better for delivering a nasty melta Stormtroper squad?

3) Best Dreadnought loadout for heavy support? I have 2, both with Lascannons and Missile Launchers.

Thanks so much for the help!

You're playing what, 3rd edition? Trial assault rules, trial vehicle rules? 4th?

My main thoughts are, psycannons are the thing you want on everyone, not incinerators. Difficult because the guys with psycannons didn't come in the default squads as far as I remember.

A fancy lord inquisitor will still be instant-killed by a marine sergeant with power fist.

Rhinos are probably better with side armor 11 and being smaller and having a top hatch. I don't remember if you could shoot special weapons out of a chimera.

That's probably the best sort of dreadnought unless you can take some Mortis/ranged weapons on both sides dreadnoughts.

We're playing third only.

Blast, is there some solid way to prevent this or otherwise accomplish a similar goal? Perhaps investing in terminator armor? I just like the idea of an Inquisitor and co riding around personally smashing things into the ground. Though if I go for termie armor I'd need a Land Raider.

Got it, and I don't believe you can, though I mainly intended to take one as part of a flamer-bomb of Stormtroopers, with the Rhino for melta.

I vaguely recall my old army was four squads of 3 Melta Gun Stormtroopers, 3 squads of 5 Terminators, and the Terminator HQ. Was getting near 1500 points I think?

Kyoto-Pattern Fireteams

Inquisitor w/Psycannon
Mystic
2 Sages (or the other way around... it's been a while)
2 Combat Servitors w/Heavy Bolters
1 Combat Servitor w/Plasma Cannon

Always had fun with that unit.

Other than that, Sacred Incense to drive your Chaos player friends insane. And Icons of the Just whereever you can fit them.

You should use the Trial Assault Rules. They're vitally important.

Oh yes, two sages gave you a reroll to hit for a shooting attack in the unit. That was a good setup, I started building one for my Imperial Guard but I built and painted slower than the editions rolled around.

Looks like I was wrong about rhinos/chimeras, chimera can shoot two guns out the top and rhinos can only do one. Chimera costs a fair bit more though.

Any idea where we could find these? We started trying 3rd because we found the corebook for cheap, and I can't find Trial Assault rules anywhere. I did find the vehicles but they were on a questionable site. (Be questionable I don't mean pirated i mean the site itself seemed like a virus trap)

Note that an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor (/Lord) can't take Crusaders in their retinue (Only Ordo Hereticus).

You don't need both the Power Weapon and Daemonhammer on the Inquisitor.

That is oddly specific, must have imagined it. Probably because the book literally shows a crusader next to the Warrior info in the book.
