Burkina Faso
2020, Operation Iron Eagle or the Battle of Bakau
2020 Jan 1st 12 American and British Aid Workers are kidnapped in Burkina Faso by the Brotherhood of Faithful in Sahel.
Jan 12th SOCOM Africa makes immediate plans to liberate the prisoners but is wary with poor relations with the current government in control of Burkina Faso
Feb 1st Drone Intelligence shows the Prisoners are in the Town of Bakua
Feb 3rd Plans are made for a Team of 15 from the 75th Rangers to enter along with support from 18 Delta Force Over-Watch and possible backup due to probable effect that there are a barracks on site and more foot soldiers in the nearby enemy controlled town (and AC-130 is also on site to be used if necessary)
Feb 4rd OP Iron Eagle begins, goal is to capture prisoners and get to exfil (Country of Ops origins is unaware)

Hour 1

Baseplate: We doing over there?

Warlord: Good good, almost on location

Baseplate: your experiencing some Turbulence is everything alright?

Warlord: Yes, it’s alright.

Baseplate: Okay , annnndddd , 10 min till touch down. I’ll be going dark on about 25-50 min after.
Warlord: Copy

Hour 3

Warlord entered the town and was able to find the prisoners in a local safe house. They were in poor health; of the 12 many looked starved and beaten. Than flood lights flashed over the safe house with loud speakers blaring demands to the soldiers too drops their arms. The Location, it was a Trap!! There was multiple Mujahedeen cells in the area directly across from the town, it was well defended and well flanked by many foot soldiers and vehicular support. They intended for them to attack the town so they could get a good many new victims.

The Special Operations Troops fought their way out of the town into a small dugout ditch until daybreak , dragging the prisoners into the mud and filth as the bullets wiz past them stuck in a thicket of weeds and other watering plants from a broken sewage outlet.

Hour 5, daybreak

Warlord: This is Warlord to Baseplate! We are heavily outnumbered; we need air-support now!
Baseplate: Warlord, we hear you. The AC-130 will be in your airspace in awhile

A Bullet struck through one of heads of prisoners knocking them across to the other end of the ditch , splitting there skull open like a cheap vase onto the chummy mass of dirt and watery mud with brain matter and blood going everywhere and there lifeless eyes giving an eerie feeling to the already horrid mix , making one a women almost feint. The choices are quick, is it decided to leave the poor man or bring him as the airstrike coordinates are given?? The roaring and chanting can be heard as a paramilitary come closer and closer holding there blacks flags, aks and machetes bare in hand, marching down the street as a mass ready to cut them down and give the survivors an internet executioner’s treatment.
They drag his sopping wet body, in blood and mud onto one of their backs and attempt to move him without a stretcher as the rest cover the civilians

The radio orders are fully called in for the coordinates and coloring for the strike to be given for CAS and the grenade is thrown into the crowd. Once it is realized, they scatter , at least 12 are killed and 24 are wounded.

Hour 12: (Reinforcements from Delta Force arrive)

A Location for Exfile is decided around a hill outside the courtyard of a house. A Defensive position with an M240 is set up outside a broken up wall around the outside area of the house across from a dried up river bed. The house is located on the outskirts of town, right now in total there are 33 Socom in country and none have been injured by enemy combatants.
Calls are made out to make night exfil from the 160th SOAR and have the AC-130 provide ground-support for the pullout

Day2….

SOCOM AFRICA: any news on OP
Baseplate: we lost the chopper…
SOCOM AFRICA: and the gunship?
Baseplate: Once night came, it was incredible … hundreds of them.. I might have counted maybe a thousand on the feed. Anti-Air. They were defiantly old , but still once a couple pierced the hull it was gameover.
SOCOM AFRICA: I see
SOCOM AFRICA: and what of team on the ground??
Baseplate: T-though the crew lost there lives, they did their part to help fend off atleast six mass attacks as the night went on. One member of Rangers was killed; two members of Delta are in critical condition, no clue if they’ll survive tomorrow. Once the helicopter landed, troops and technicals started open firing on it and it almost immediately had both pilots torn apart by machine gun fire and it crashed into the ground. The Team has moved to a position further along rural farmland near the village of Ogden
SOCOM AFRICA: Where does this leave the Operation and Our Team?

Baseplate: Way I see it, we have two choices, either we send another team and risk more casualties or they end up on the evening news in some internet execution video.

SOCOM AFRICA: Gather resources to have MARSOC inserted around the town

Day3

Dragging the starting to smell corpses of the aid workers behind them and the newly dead bodies of the soldiers of the fresh fighting from the night before the SOCOM Warriors enter the rural farming hamlet Ogden, weary of a possible ambush the soldiers are prepared for anything but come being cheered by the locals against the praise of the farmers cheering the fighters that the not members of the feared group that has terrorized the many villages and towns of these valleys.

They come around the wounded, dead and others and drag them off to help with their wounds and other issues. They soon see men with rifles tucked under their clothing, in broken English they tell they pushed them out of there town and have created mortars and dugs to force them out of there town and the surrounding areas. They also show radios to converge communications with other self-defense groups against the Jihadi thugs.

Day 3 Hour 6

Radio Coms have been dead in the water for days due to short circuit issues and local coms aren’t safe, and country of OP isn’t aware of current Operation.. along with the recent escapade with the AC-130 which might have lead too local army search parties looking for Foreign Soldiers…

The best option is too sleep it off and figure it when it happens

Day 3 Hour 9

Two Specialized SOCOM Covert ops Humvees honk their horns directly outside the thatched roof house of the commanding officer who pokes his head out to see the reinforcements who came across country from Mali all way into southern Burkina to see them. How nice!

Telling them the plan appears to be that they’ll move their troops into the backs of each vehicle and move themselves across to an exfil around the Burkina/Mali Border. Though the key problem with this is that it’ll be deep into enemy territory. Command suggested Ogden since there is massive network of self-defense force units against the Brotherhood of Faithful in Sahel there but after losing an ac-130 to anti air fire enemy radar have been all but greeted to a presence. Meaning a helicopter in that area would be met with a SAM from every angle you can possibly think of

He shows him the local fighters, and remarks about SOCOM Africa and Baseplate having a connection to the BAFs Gibraltar Base for Air Operations in the Mediterranean Sea and suggests they use AH-64s to launch air-support operations into Northern Burinko against the Brotherhood.

Plans are made to change to exfil locations , time goes by and the waiting begins..

Day 4..

The Local Warfighters and SOCOM Special OPs sit inside the trenches waiting for the terrorists to arrive. Soon a Mortar strikes near one of the trenches and some can be seen running among the hills far across the trench line. Many can be seen getting out of trucks and preparing to disembark to kill the reminding enemy soldiers from days previous. Soon an APC can be seen among the mass of enemy of soldiers with its exhaust clearly seen as its moves towards the trenches slowly gaining ground rumbling with a slow thunderous noise, the battle begins!

The trench line is peppered with enemy machine gun and rifle rounds and rocket fire! yet they don’t back down , the militia charge the enemy lines are mowed down by the tens , some are wearing vests are shot before reaching it , they detonate there explosive ladened vests sending chunks of flesh everywhere as the life leaves their eyes right before they hit the floor from being hit by enemy fire. The enemy lie scattered across the field yet they still keep coming, yelling and screaming , attempting to overrun there lines in follies of masses rushing them with suicidal tactics.

Radio support comes in from a MARSOC member saying that exfil is on its way,

Hour ½ Later
A Black Hawk Helicopter appears over the horizon, coms pickup over from the radio of the pilot asking for a exfil location soon as the call pickup for exfil a ZPU fires upon the helicopters as it flies over and hits turbine shooting it down. Smoke can be seen from the crash site, word can be picked up quickly coming from Baseplate of the news coming back quickly to MARSOCs coms. News that one of the pilots survived can be heard from Baseplate, Two members of the MARSOC Team offer to go bring them back alive to the town until further exfil can be found.

Day 4 Night falls on Feb 8th on Operation Iron Eagle
The Two MARSOC Operatives get around the crash site before the brotherhood does, set up a perimeter. They both find themselves in a thicket of enemy rifle and rocket fire are quickly overwhelmed and overrun , yet still keep fighting. Around day break both are captured, both are necklaced alive along with the pilot in the town of Juba.

Day 5

News comes of the death of the two other members of the team having been captured and burned alive; hope begins to fade for the remaining fighters. Than as the last remaining grave moments of faith that there survival is on the line , a radio call comes in for the British Airforce asking for coordinates for possible surgical strikes for Helicopter support.

A Local Physical map of area is used, though a-little outdated it does the trick just fine with strafe after strafe, first goes the motorized columns, than there infantry, than there command centers, than their barracks, than there bunkers, than there armored than plans are made for exfil under the heavy strikes and current strafes as the radio is handed to the locals giving coordination to the British pilots.
Under the heavy bombardment plans are made for a chinook to land for exfil in a field 5 miles outside the town with an extra 7 support infantry to cover the landing and 4 little birds in support as the bombardment strikes enemy positions to north and northeast to drive them away from the LZ.
They drive the Humvees to the landing zone and are greeted by hasty group of SOCOM ops teams pulling them aboard the chinook as they moved aboard pulled out from country and the aid workers are finally moved out from the terrorist hotspot and there nightmare ends
Ending the battle of Bakau ______________________________________________________________________________

Saints Eliza’s Defense Force of the Southern Hills: 24 KIA 32WIA (of local village defense force of 90)
SOCOM: 15 KIA 22 WIA
USAF: 18 KIA
______________________________________________________________________________
Brotherhood of Faithful in Sahel: 6,000 KIA 450 WIA

Even with the heavy loses of the Brotherhood , the shooting down of two choppers and an AC-130 gunship was an amazing PR victory for the group and greatly damaged US foreign reputation abroad for the attempted secrecy of the operation gone awry , militia dragged their bodies behind pickup trucks and put the wreckage of the UH-60s on the backs of Propaganda Vehicle
