Hey there!

A while back I picked up a bag of beat to crap guardian models. $10 for about 10 models with of pieces. I started messing around with a scheme. Let me know what you think. This is rough...just a test model. Baharoth blue with coelia green shade.

Not a bad start. I’d worry that with the head being the same as the gun, the overall mini will not have a lot of interest. I might pick a color to help the whole thing pop a little more. Alternatively, the hoses/gems/details could be used to toss some more life into the mini.

Thanks for the feedback! I am going to try the heads a couple of different ways. A solid neutral, two tone gun/neutral, two ton gun/armor.

I am pretty sure I want to do a dark grey base that should help the model pop a bit more. Since I got the models so cheap I'm up for experimenting.

I think a yellow head would look awesome on this scheme but might risk looking like some of the other schemes currently around - depends how different you are looking to be!

Welcome to the "Bone-colored Shuriken Catapult Club", Ender. Your scheme is looking good so far.

Instead of making the helmets bone, have you considered just making the faceplates bone? It worked for my Ulthwe:

Then you can use a spot color on the tubes, eyes, holsters, and gems.

Very curious to see how your guys look finished. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the words of advice and suggestions. I've been wondering how to make the faces pop. No matter the model the face will always be a focal point. A two blue and bone might work out well! I am going to try a few different things tonight.

I definitely will be hitting the tubes, gems, grenades and sashes. Those little thing will definitely be happening.

Painted up 3 different heads. All bone. All blue. Two tone blue with bone face mask.

On the all blue I didn't add any layering over the ink so the face make looks a.bit darker.

I personally think the bone helmet is the best. Just an idea though: how would that version look with a dark blue faceplate? Or some other darker colour? Just an idea!

That's a great suggestion. I need to try a two tone with a bone colored helmet and a blue face flat. That might be really great!

The bone faceplate came out really well. Curious to see the other variations while you hammer out your design.

Final face plate variation. Bone helmet and a blue face. The helmet itself isn't done. So, squint your eyes so you get the "on the battlefield" sense of how the colors will look.

The guy in the center has the new head. The two guys flanking him are just practice bodies for the color scheme.

As I am buying/trading models as they become available and not for a specific list, my army is growing in odd ways. I'll be posting a "what I've got" pic later tonight as well as a progress shot of my best to heck guardians I got for $10.

Best/worst part of having a wife that has a BFA is that she totally knows what she's talking about regarding color theory...and can prove me wrong most of the time. After a while working in it I think I've come up with a color palette for the aspect warriors that should comment the teal guardians and vehicles.

Here is a larger group shock. The models don't include any detailing for hoses, gems or sashes. Still just experiment with colors and techniques.

Lookin' good! I'm still partial to the bone helmet with blue face plate.

Thanks! I agree. The helmet needs to not be blue. All bone and bone with blue is what I'm going to do.

Guy on the left was the first color experiment.

I should be getting a package in a couple days with some eldar I traded for. At that point I am going to do a "collection" shot and outline some plans for stripping and painting.

Was trying to make an army out of what eldar I had and realized I only had a single troops choice. I was looking for a farseer model in my closet of shame and I ran into a sandwich baggie of 24 guardians! Woot! 3 of them appear to have flamers, 3 with various double catapults or hth weapons. The other 18 are normal.

I should be able to cannibalize the double catapult guys for a dire avenger exarch.
