Notable things I've picked up on for my guys:
• Command Protocols got a lot less fiddly, and more effective.
• Calling a Waaagh got a lot better.

Harlequins are like a new book now.

Baneblades with 2+ and AoC!
Tempestus with HoE.

Tons of stuff, but looks like nothing for Daemons and GSC still...going to be a lot of pissed off folks there.

Typical sledgehammer to Nids. I don't mind the HT being the WL, but the change to synaptic imperatives is lame (...what if you picked Old One Eye as your Warlord, why should he have anything to do with Synaptic Imperatives?), and the change to adaptive traits is really, really, really lame (the first time in my years of playing that Nids truly felt adaptive and they yank it away...)

Nerf Leviathan, nerf whatever is a problem, but this blanket BS is getting really, really old.

Waagh change is spicy. and only being limited to 3 buggies in any configuration is nice.
Eldar can only fire and fade once.
Tyranids can only change their adaptive element during list building, not start of game.

Some intereresting changes.

The change to Necron protocols is huge. That should instantly make them a much more effective army and also provides a nice little boost for the named Dynasties, almost all of which are rarely seen.

I just wish GW had any sort of proper planning at the start of an edition so this kind of thing wasn't necessary.

Holy hell, GW is really terrible at playtesting their own work if they feel it's necessary to change Tyranids this much in such a short time. The playtesting that was done by selected community channels must have been utterly pointless if this was the end result. Hopefully in practice it works out to be fair, but the sledge hammer nerf approach looks to have hit once again.

Well, I guess the people in the General thread talking about how Nids got off light will eats their hats?

Yeah, I've got my cards out as it seems like it's worth learning what they all are now! Would be good to see more Necrons out there not just defaulting to the ObSec trait.

And yet we had people saying Nids were barely touched at all. Who are we to believe?

I'm not even saying this was a super severe nerf. I don't know that it will make that big of a difference honestly -- I think a Leviathan nerf would have been more impactful. This is much more annoying than a Leviathan/Behemoth/etc. nerf though because it hits everybody, and not just those playing the cheesy hive fleets.

In the end, I think it's super unfluffy while probably not accomplishing the goal that GW was setting out for, which is the worst of both worlds.

The CSM codex isn't even up for pre-order yet, and it's already gotten its first errata.

Well, I guess we just got an answer to the question of whether or not they thought of AoC before they "finished" the codex.

Yeah, this is like Christmas for me. But it's just made the decision about what I'm painting this weekend a bit harder. Skorpekh Lord's suddenly looking quite appealing…

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

The Warlord thing for Hive Tyrants is fine, I guess. The requirement to have your Warlord on the table for Psychic Imperatives is a needless change.

But the Adaptive Physiology one? Well, it's not exactly adaptive now is it? That completely goes against the spirit and the intent of that rule.

Why are they so bad at this?

Knew that one was coming. We had leaks for too long (and so many were true), the timeline just didn't work out.

But it also makes some sense with the way the dataslate works. None of this is permanent... it lasts for as long as its in the current dataslate,* If, in the next dataslate they revert Armor of Contempt, this change for Iron Warriors (and Salamanders and Valorous Heart) can be easily reverted as well.

*which is irritating that they don't do new stuff in different colors the way they do FAQs. Some consistency for updates, please.

I just don't get it because the Adaptive Trait one is, like, the least impactful from a rules perspective but the most impactful from a fluff perspective. Who the hell made that call? Why!?

Good. Free re-rolls in large amounts needs to die in a fire.
The established baseline for rerolls is 1 reroll = 1 CP... until you get to individual books, and then they hand them out in buckets. Its terrible game design.

Reads IG section: not there.
Goes back and re-reads AoC. Oh. OK then, just drop it in the old text.

Why is consistency so hard for them?

Really hating the unadaptive nerf, it is so fething stupid. I'm really glad my FLG group likes Crusade.

But actually like the HT and Imperative nerfs. Quite fluffy representation that killing the main HT is a big part of fighting Tyranids in the lore.

I dunno, the Imperative nerf still annoys me. It's not like the Warlord is necessarily THE conduit for synapse, which is what this change evokes for me. Yeah, if you brought a Swarmlord or HT (and therefore had to make it your warlord), okay, I'll buy it; that's their function. But if your warlord is like a Tyranid Prime or a Neurothrope? Nah, I don't think that should lead to a critical meltdown in terms of the gestalt synapse.

Ooo. I missed that one. 2+ saves, AoC, and a big points drop. Baneblades are officially back in the LoW game. See you on table guys. May the best super heavy tank win.

I haven’t even played my Harlequins yet and the army is already completely different to what is in the codex, lol. Probably a good thing as I won’t really know what I missed. I think the choice between the Saedaths got more interesting and the rerolls is fine as it’s a luck roll, so you have to be lucky to get them in the first place! In a world of less CP for rerolls, this is a good change.
Eldar one doesn’t really affect me much as I play an Iyanden list mostly.

Yeah, the reason I'm not ree-ing about the Eldar/Harlequin changes is because I didn't get to play with them yet either. Plus, ...idk, the Harlequins ones feel kind of warranted? The bonuses they got were so out of whack from the rules handed out to other factions. I think they'll still be an enjoyable faction to play, and Luck of the Laughing God is much more reasonable now as a special rule.

The dark behind the eyes.

Looking at this balance patch, I feel very sorry for anyone still relying on physical codices.

I think you're gonna need a bigger post-it note.

I guess the "adaptive" nids are now exactly as adaptive as every other faction, which also get to choose which subfaction rules they want to use before the battle.

Well, this is wrong...
“2022 continues to be an exciting year for the balance of Warhammer 40,000 in the matched play scene! We’ve had several months to see the impact that the previous Balance Dataslate brought about,

No, the previous one went up around the 20th of April. Its been out in the wild just over two months, and there is no possibly way GW starting seeing the impacts for the entire two months before they started making further changes to write this one. All the tyranid stuff is pretty independent of that dataslate as well.

---
Bit of a wow on the necron changes. I think. I'll have to go back and decipher the arcane formula of the original command protocols rules and graft the new bits and pieces on to it before I really grasp how it works now. I don't actually trust 'it basically affects everything, everywhere,' which I guess is the intent.

Bonus for CORE being just a nigh-universal joke now.

----
Armor of contempt is becoming dumber and dumber as it spreads. Yes, guard tanks need a boost. But...just subtract 1 AP from every weapon profile. Its simpler.

No where in the multiverse is making everything 1ap less the simpler solution. It might be the better decision but certainly not the simpler one.
