What it says on the title, if given unlimited time and resources for your hobby, what would you make?

Personally I would love to make a diorama of the final battle from "The Butcher's Nails" Two Primarchs battling, a Crashing battle ship in the background, a bunch of scout titans bringing down an emperor class with harpoons, and to top it all off, everything is literally waist deep in blood and sea water, you could do incredible things with clear resin for the liquids.

What about you guys? what nonsense would you bring to life?

"I don't have a good feeling about this... Your mini looks like it has my mini's head on a stick..."

"From the immaterium to the Imperium, this is Radio Free Nostramo! Coming to you live from the Eye of Terror, this is your host, Captain Contagion, bringing you the latest Heretical hits!"

Titan Mantipul of 2 warlords, 3 reavers, 6 warhounds
Acompanying knight hosts with 4 per warhound, 6 per reaver, and 8 per Warlord for a total of 58 knights of various makes and models and load out.

A full Solar Auxilia company to go with them along with supporting mechanicum units.

Then 3 6x4 tables. 1 being a spacehulk/ZM board with the abilityo to swap out tiles for themed exterior settings
1 being a woodland setting, think endor
1 being heavy city scape fighting.

To many unpainted models to count.

I would build some kind of village diorama that depicts regular life in a feudal world under the rule of Nurgle-worshipping Chaos Space Marines.

Dilapidated and mossy houses. Shambling villagers with vacant stares prodding the soil with rusty pitchforks. Plague Marines and Tallymen making their daily rounds, supervising the villagers, praying to Nurgle, etc. In the centre there would be a citadel towering over everything else. It would have an armoury, a throne room, a barracks, and so on- all of these populated with various lords, soldiers, and servants.

I think it would be fun to create something that captures a candid moment in day-to-day life instead of an epic battle scene.

Fairly close to this, but with Skitarii instead of the Auxiliaries.

That or a Manta plus escorts and full cadre.

Depends on what you mean by "Infinite"

If literally Infinite Time & Money, meaning you never grow old and have all resources then I would not be painting minis but building a time machine like in a 1960 movie. And eventually go mad.
or
Given Infinite Time & Money, meaning you are not effected by mortality, then I would do every possible type of diorama and theme and color scheme there could ever be. And then go mad.
or
If the infinite is to be taken to mean a lot of free time and not worried about the money, then I would probably create my own fantasy/scifi, draw and design the world and the characters, hand sculpt every model, and build a dioramas for my worlds like WETA workshop does.

I have always harboured a desire to do a decent Guard armoured regiment with full super heavy support. Ideally with a range of the no longer available Forgeworld alternate Russ models.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Oh I'd be all over ebay scooping up old metal - I'd love to make my chaos force a complete geological cross-section of 40k's history, from the ancient 'renegades' in their bioformed armour right up to modern plastic kits, and every stage in between. I do what I can within my modest means - luckily I still have a few odds and ends from back then, and I've picked up a few cheapies online (got a trio of 1994 daemonettes in the post yesterday), and naturally I'm all over it any time they put up some ancient weirdo on made-to-order - but there's so much more out there. Not so much an army as a museum exhibit, but that's kind of my jam - I don't hold with being affectionate towards companies, but the creative side of GW has had such a fascinating history with so many oddball twists and turns, I'd love to get the full range on show. Hell, I'd probably only last half a day before I gave up on doing 'just' chaos, and started buying everything.

And books, all the books. Again I'm lucky to still have a lot of my old 'library', but there are gaps on the shelves (figuratively, not literally, it's actually pretty crowded on there).

Actually i would like to retract my answer and give the one that everyone here knows deep down is the only right answer.

If i had infinite time and money i would just spend it on model back long and then spend infinite time procrastinating.

To many unpainted models to count.

I'd consider making a start on the Warhound Titan that's been sitting in its box since I bought it 3 years ago.

A huge diorama of a river crossing by Imperial Guard. With at least two Gorgon heavy transports, a couple of converted amphibious looking Chimeras, driving pontoon bridges/ferries similar to the M3 Amphibious Rig, possibly a couple of IG looking kitbashes/conversions covering the role of the WW2 LVT1-4. Additionally some Vietnam style brown water navy patrol boats securing the flanks.
All in all something that looks like a whole company (or even several) crossing a river "hot", so with fighting going on on the other river bank.

As the premise is infitie time and money something like a 2 x 2m or even 2 x 3m diorama with like... 400 Infantry and 30-40 Vehicles.

Macragge polar fortress base table, with enough room for a chunk of my Ultras to muster as a display.

And enough tyranids to take it from them...

That is an impressive table, and very close to what I had in mind.

Ice-world fortress is not a new idea. From Echo base on Hoth, to The Fang, and Macragge. I think GW has done a few tables/dioramas over the years.

The Plan (as I’ve put a lot of thought into something that’s not going to happen) was a 4x8 table cut into 2x2 tiles. First pair would be the side of the mountain, rough, but with walkways and gun emplacements. Giant doors carved into the side opening up onto the mustering field.

Next pair would be the mustering ground. Mostly paved tarmac with some outbuilding defenses. The idea would be to have it painted like a parking lot, where every marine and tank would have a spot assigned, at a company level. Seems like a very hyper-organized Ultramarine thing to do, and doubles as a display board.

After that we transition from the base to the wilds. Mostly snow, with perimeter defenses. Probably some trenchworks.

Last pair is pure snow, scatter terrain is natural features.

As for marines to man it, I’ve probably got half the chapter already. Infinaite time and money? I’d probably finish it. As for the tyranids, I could extend the fortress-to-natural transition from the base idea to fortress-to-natural-to-unnatural. and have a couple more tiles ramping up with the planet being tyranoformed with spore chimneys and the like. And there is not upper limit of how many nids one can have in the swarm.

Dawn of War 4. Except, you know, with competent writers this time. Chapter gets first shipment of primaris and from this point on, the game becomes chapter management/strategy, with player being given free reins (maintain balance, go full primaris, go chaos/renegade, etc, etc) as to force composition but rarer gear would need to be 'acquired' somehow.

Oh, and probably a full chapter worth of minis to go with it, including all the stuff they had in DoW 2. Including 'acquired' primarchs and BEYNBLEYDDD!

Given infinite time and money?

I've got several small projects to complete armies sitting about in stages, so I'd get those done. Probably finish the 'Empire of Bretonnia' expansion to my Bretonnian army (that is, creating Bretonnian equivalents to Imperial units).

I imagine I'd eventually start painting BattleTech minis too, since I've been playing that for years.

After that, it would probably be 'whatever neat model catches my eye next', and play a LOT of games. Possibly even buy a venue of some sort with which to attract new players.

CHAOS! PANIC! DISORDER!

Oh and I’d like to add a forge shrine diorama to store all that in.

I'd like to take everyone else's ideas and role them all together. I'd love to open something like Warhammer World, but in North America and not just Warhammer. I'd buy a big warehouse and fill it with customized tables with big set pieces. There would some empty tables as well. That way people could come and play whatever games they want. Board games, table top strategy, role play, whatever.

Maybe attach a hobby store on the side, just to keep the lights on. I wonder if it could be considered a non profit without the hobby store? Maybe run some kind of summer camp? Really help kids get into the hobby without them going poor.

I'd also paint up the full chapter of Ultramarines. Nothing fancy. Just a decent, in-house, table top ready army that people could borrow. I'd think I could be happy kepping a place like that running.
