Hi Everyone, pretty new to modelling. I want to magnetize the bases of my miniatures for storage.

Some of the underneath surfaces on the base are not smooth (like AoS Sequitors) and have a molded texture.

Should I smooth out that underneath surface with putty to create a flat surface to glue the magnets on? (I was thinking green stuff)

Any suggestions?

You probably want to set the magnets in an epoxy or a putty anyway, but yeah get some milliput and fill them up.

Putty helps anyway with getting the magnet as close to the surface it's supposed to attach to as possible anyway, and I've found that a bit of a greenstuff lip around the magnet also helps with sliding.

Take a ball of putty, superglue to the bottom of the base, put the magnet onto the putty with a small dab of superglue, and press against a moistened flat surface to get the magnet flush.
Or skip the superglue and then glue the putty and magnet back to the base after they fall off in about a week.

It's my go-to storage method for just about everything, in plastic tubs with steel sheet metal.
