Following the fulfillment of the Kickstarter for Wildlands Dwarven Forge is releasing excess stock to their retail website on the 10th of August.

https://dwarvenforge.com/collections/wildlands

We only just got our Wildlands pledge, being among the last 10 backers to get their pledge.

If you are curious about our review, check out our unboxing blog post.

What are your thoughts on Dwarven Forge terrain? Has the new forest, swamp and mountain terrain in Wildlands changed your opinion?

I'd be interested if it becomes a readily available retail item. Had enough with Kickstarters to be honest. (Not just Dwarven Forge, but in general).

Dwarven Forge can be a bit… challenging… in regards to keeping things in retail stock but while some things from the KS will have limited availability I have been assured there will be a lot of the “bread and butter” Wildlands items in their retail range from tomorrow on.

I know the sticker shock can be a problem but when you consider it a long term investment due to the durable nature of the items it becomes more acceptable, at least to me and Mrs. GG. So versatile, modular and durable.

It looks good, I would like to pick up some of these but choosing what I want is hard.
Really would like everything lol
Would it be possible to see these next to some of the other tiles on the market? I was curious with height and such for these.

Also a shame about the customs :(

Yeah the pieces are expensive even before postage, VAT and any additional Customs handling fees.

Unfortunately I can not provide much of a tile comparison as the only other ones we use are Archon Studio Dungeons and Lasers pieces… although I do not use them in the traditional modular tile role they were designed for.

It depends on what you want to do with the terrain. Personally I think getting some rocks and trees to use as scatter on top of a gaming mat is the way forward, Then over time increase your coverage while reducing your “negative space”… which admittedly is the majority of the table in the beginning.

Ahh not a worry, I use a mat and warlock for the base of my tables.

We have some dwarven forge stuff, but nothing new.
I was thinking of picking up one of the Forrest packs at the moment.
Thanks for the review, probably the best I have seen covering dwarven forge.

There is a thread on the DF forum that may be of help. Ignore the contentious thread title, the thread has a number of Warlock tile users in it.

I'd be interested, but DF fired any non-whales as customers around the time of their town kickstarter. It's all loaded with magnets, lights, smoke effects and other bs that made the price skyrocket. The dwarvenite dungeons and caverns were pretty affordable, it's a shame they decided to price us out for the crowd who mostly make dioramas for themselves.

DF is not just for whales. You can buy bread and butter pieces without bells and whistles… as I have linked above.

To be fair, chasing the whale market makes a lot of sense for the company, anyone wanting good value will have gone for a 3d printer at this point. And there's Dungeons and Lasers for a lower priced, but not quite as nice physical product.

DF is pre-made so the kind of buyer left will have a lot of money and will be happy to pay for the convenience of not having to print anything. Until someone else comes along and does a better version, they're at the top of the market.

Look at how the price ballooned from the first 2 KS's, in part because they overdesigned everything to hell and back. Rather than just making tudor walls like the dungeon, they had their stupid post system and jacked up the price. Seriously, it's $50 for a friggin 4x4 house. Sorry, it's whale country now, particularly compared to Dungeons and Lasers.

You mean you don't like paying today to maybe receive your product 2 years in the future? Car dealerships are thriving on this business model...

A set of trees with rocky bases and a set of rocky elevation scatter that together are about 100 dollars and would do a good job of breaking line of sight and helping fill a 2x2 does not seem whale material to me.

Nor does the basic dungeon, which even with LEDs is just under 100 dollars.

Is it as cheap as D&L? No. But some folks may prefer the DF material to the D&L material.

Also, both D&L and DF have neither the print lines nor production headaches of 3d printing.

Each to their own but I think to say “DF is only for whales” is disregarding a lot of DF products and may discourage people from looking at DF with an open mind. That seems a disservice.

I have been surprised by how quickly things have been going out of stock. I have heard talk of over 500 customers in the first 10 minutes of Wildlands hitting retail.

We were not able to get everything we wanted but we got some key sets we were after.

Been asked to contribute here so here goes

The fact that DF can come pre painted is a major plus as is its modularity and durability.

With limited time and space and the fact it looks amazing, makes DF my go to terrain for Wargaming, story telling, narrative gaming and just general world building.

The fact that you get to use the Z axis makes it superior to almost any alternative, at its price it should be superior, but it delivers if you can afford it.

Like most things in life if you can afford the quality, over time good value for money.
