Can you use Battle Focus if you did not shoot?

Does the Biel Tan attribute that makes 1s and 2s count as 3s prevent Warp Spiders from taking a mortal wound when rolling double 1s?

Some say you can, some say you cant. Nothing in the FAQs about it.

Oh that’s awesome about the warp spiders!

The other thread about using CO to fight with two units consecutively got me curious about how battle focus is used. Can an eldar player finish resolving their shooting attacks with their entire army before using battle focus for their eligible units? I assume people play battle focus immediately after shooting, before moving into the next unit to shoot with.

Battle Focus states "In your Shooting phase, after this unit has finished making its attacks, unless it Fell Back or Advanced this turn, this unit can make a Battle Focus move." You therefore must make a shooting attack with the unit to use Battle Focus.

Note that due to the rules around selecting units to shoot, your unit must have a shooting attack it can actually make (range, LOS, etc.) to be selected. Thus, it is not possible to Battle Focus if you can't make a shooting attack with the unit.

I see, yeah. It seems you need LoS and range in order to make shooting attacks. You can’t shoot and auto fail by being out of range anymore. I suppose if they didn’t want you to battle focus without shooting they would’ve just said in your shooting phase, not after resolving attacks.
