Have you ever lost your miniatures or parts of them by unknown reasons? It's understandable that some small parts of minis maybe lost but how does something bigger disappear from a cabinet where you have had the mini for years? I have lost over the years at least a claw of an oop dark eldar talos, a land raider front hatch and a complete old metal chaos juggernaut! And I don't have cats or kids who would steal them.

Have such atrocities ever happened to you, and have you found a rational explanation for it? I have no idea what happened to my stuff.

Several times an arm or something like this disappeared during the building of a squad (the latest incident was Mad Larkins left arm). I look for it for days, turning everything upside down until I accept my fate and replace it. And everytime when I'm done with the squad the part materializes in my drawer to mock me!

Gremlin? No..... cat? Yes.

One of my cats enjoys grabbing pikeman by the spearpoint and carrying them off to places unknown. Whole models at a time.

I have to pack everything up whenever I am done painting for safety and security from the cat!

Had an entire Skaven army stolen whilst deployed to a different store.

Amused I was not.

Years ago I had a lovingly converted mounted Commissar.
He got bumped while putting something else into the open sided lamp/display shelf.
He fell onto the carpeted floor & the sword arm popped off.
No problem, right?

Wrong.

The sword arm literally vanished.
It wasn't right there close by.
It wasn't under any of the furniture.
The corner where the lamp/shelf unit was located was nowhere near the door. Or any other opening.
The room was fairly clean/red up already so there was little to nothing it could get into/under - though we did carefully check everything....
It was impossible for it to get under the edges of the carpet - though we checked all the seems anyways.
It was not stuck to any shoe laces/pant cuffs etc.
There was no waste basket in the room.
Etc.

The next day I cleaned the entire room. Removing all the furniture, wiping down window sills, washed curtains, carefully searching every inch of room/carpet, you name it.

No sword arm.

20+ years later, many thorough cleanings, and even a complete stripping & re-carpeting? Still no arm.

So beyond it falling into some micro wormhole or such..... have no explanation.

Had one of my Ogre Kingdoms gnoblars go AWOL about 12 years ago. Just disappeared from my room. I used to keep my Ogres on a work table in my bedroom, my cat used to enjoy hopping up there and swatting minis off the ledge, as cats do. I figured thats what appened to it, but never did find it when I moved out.

Oh that is nasty :( Did you ever find out who did it or anything?

I think we've all lost bits here and there. Carpets and little gaps on the floor have claimed many a part to the void.
Though I think my most memorable was losing a genestealer to a husky who decided to give it a chew. Thankfully I did get it back, in bits, but yeah that's about my most notable death/loss to the wildness of pets.

That said I do have a lingering memory of building the vampire set for Underworld and yet I don't appear to have ever bought it nor own the models. Though I think its more of a "saw enough videos" situation. That or I've lost an entire Underworld Warband and not realised it!

A few stories:

One day we accidentally left the garage open. I lost a Riptide, and Eldar War Walker, a converted Robogear flyer and some other stuff. The converted flyer was the real heartbreaker.

A long time ago, I was gluing a metal mini together, the Sentinel from Helldorado, and lost one of the four teeny little horns that glue onto his shoulder pads. I looked everywhere—through the carpet, under tables, under the TV, on book shelves, in the kitchen—and never found it. The incomplete minis became a disappointment, so I hid it away. Years later we moved. And started a family. And eventually I was going through my models to see what I should give away. And when I picked up the Sentinel to see if it sparked joy, I noticed something stock today the side of his foot: the missing horn! Now he is complete, and back in storage. One of the few metal miniatures I’ll keep.

(The song playing when I was assembling him was Pumped Up Kicks, so now whenever I hear that song I feel slightly anxious and mentally smell super glue.)

My puppy once ate 3 or 4 whole sprues. Untouched sprues. They were Mantic or Perry or Gripping Beast, so more of a nuisance than a tragedy. It’s a good thing they weren’t GW sprues; I’d hate to have to put the pup down.

Worst I had was when I was restoring my Reaver Titan, which had two seated Moderati figures in the cockpit. One of them decided to go AWOL despite having no legs, practically ripped the room apart looking for it.

I emailed Forge World asking if I could buy a replacement, they said they wouldn't help unless they had a receipt. Given that I bought it at Nottingham around 12 years ago that was impossible, so they said they'll accept a bank statement showing the purchase.

I gave up on that and decided to replace him with one of the standing Moderati figures I had. I figured if I saw through his waist he'll fit in the cockpit and be pretty indistinguishable from the real thing. I cut through him in one go, and literally as I'm about to glue him in the cockpit, I find the original silly bastard right there on the carpet.

Damned if I can find the crew for my vintage metal Dwarf Goblobber. I don't especially want it any more, and had been thinking of chucking it up on ebay - but don't want to do it incomplete.

In much the same way, most of my troops for Prince Uther's Dragon Company have disappeared - and I'd happily get shot of that too, but only as a complete set...

When building the brewmaster for my malifaux crew I lost the cloth that makes up his face mask. Turned the whole room upside down, went through every army case and it was no where to be found. About a month later it's just there in the middle of my painting station where I'd been working.

I've lost a fire dragon to the void somewhere. I definitely had a squad of 10 and for a number of years now they've only been a 9.

Nothing like that. I've just flushed a few small parts on several occasions.
Put everything in bowl - > wash -> toss in again to rinse - > dump the water and remember that a few bits just went down the drain -> proceed to sell the model on ebay

had one stand from a Flames of War German Grenadier Platoon go walkies once, just one stand, wasn't in the case, hiding among any of the terrain, on the floor, opponent checked his stuff and not their either

weird, ended up with a different looking proxy and never did find them

Been there.
I had a single base of US paratroopers miss the drop zone a few years ago.
They were there when stuff was pulled out of the case.
But when I went to deploy them a few turns later....

I don't have them. John doesn't. Nowhere on floor/tables/terrain/mixed into wrong foam tray.
No randos, kids, or cat about. No heat vent anywhere near.
They've never been found.

So ???

I suspect mine had finally had enough of their supreme commander and decided going walkies was in their long term interest

and I never even found some US paratroopers instead

I did end up with some black primed goblins though I have no idea the origins of

The Land of the Rising Sun

I lost a Btech Commando. For years it stood on a self inside my figure closet with a sorry desert cammo paint job, the moment I decided to throw it into the acetone bath, and repaint it... Poof! it was gone, never to be seen again.

I'm sure it didn't want to be repainted.

Damn, they did it again. That mini had two arms yesterday... looks everywhere... and I just know it will turn up again as soon as I have replaced it...
