A new Dungeon Universalis KS just went up. The new one features a reprinting of the core box, as well as adding a whole new expansion to the mix and a mini adventure

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dungeonuniversalis/dungeon-universalis-new-challenges-expansionandreprint?ref=user_menu

The new expansion includes a new Campaign book with two campaigns and a load of new side quests; a campaign map board that opens up a new part of the Arasca world, and a whole raft of new races, spells, travel events, skills, objects, and 96 new bestiary cards. There's also a load of new rules including fear, resources, crafting and random missions (amongst many other bits apparently).

Unlike the original Core box, both the reprint and the expansion have separated the boards and standees into add-ons, allowing people to choose what they want.

Spoiler:

The one confusing thing is the decision to call it version 1.3 when there's no changes to the rules or cards from the 1.2 version released in the last KS... it's a repackaging to make the main box smaller and easier to ship by splitting out the boards and standees..

Having said that, it's a great game with loads of flexibility for dungeon crawlers

Sinisalo:
According to what the authors said in relation to the core rules and the cards 1.3 edition should be exactly the same as the previous one (so called revised, however I have not seen it labeled as 1.2).

This is indeed a bit confusing since one would assume that the minor version increase indicates some changes. It looks like there will be as well no errata (for EN version) inlcuded within 1.3 that is surprising. The real difference from the revised edition (1.2) is actually in the form of packaging 1.3 version and its separation of individual components. I guess it should be noted in KS FAQ or even better clearly written in the KS campaign description.

I guess there will be some new rules added with New Challenge Expansion separately.

The revised core rulebook itself could be downloaded from here:

Make sure you don't just google the core rules since you could as well download the very first and OBSOLETE version (would be 1.1 then) :-)

Good to know. What did you think of the game?

Removing the tiles and standees lower the price -- and shipping -- from about $150 to $100. There's at least two boardgamers frothing that the tiles and standees aren't in the core box, but I've dropped hundreds of dollars on game tiles and miniatures that I don't want $50 of 2D stuff I won't use. Solo gaming with 60+ quests sounds like it'll keep me busy.

Wonder how well DUN will work with the upcoming Battle Systems Dungeons 2.0 terrain...

I really wish I had the time and dedication for this game. It looks so amazing but I know myself too well and I'd never get through the rulebook, or I'd get hung up trying to source and paint actual figures instead of just using the standees and never actually play it. It's still very tempting to get it just to have it

Rulebook, Bestiary I, and sample dungeons on the KS page.

I get the impression that DUN will continue to be supported and the creators said they're only selling this on KS.(Not the only "big big box" boardgame I've seen only sold on KS.) So I'm sure there will be another reprint. USA shipments of the last reprint were July 2022.

Battle System's Maladum dungeon miniaturees skirmish and dungeon terrain is coming in October, so I'll probably only pledge 1EU for DUN PM access...

Its a big of a chore to learn and store, but hell if DUN isn't one of the greatest board-game/dungeon-crawls of all time. If someone loves OG Warhammer Quest, etc... I can recommend an all-in pledge for this one easily.

My wife and I are over 200hrs into our copy, and that doesn't include one-off teaching games. Meanwhile this KS adds another 100+ hour campaign.

I will say, I would kill for them to spend the money on a native English speaking editor. It isn't horrible, but there are a LOT of typos, and inconsistent wordings for certain rules.

@Ecurtz. Basically. LOTS of writing like that in our copy which was from the first Kickstarter. I don't know if any later editions cleaned anything up.

Thing is, it is clearly an RPG/dungeon-crawl in a box, and in the spirit of a RPG I never have a problem making a call in the case of a rule reading awkwardly.

What IS in the box, is an excellent, excellent game, with a crazy enough amount of content that I had an easy time dropping $300 on it

It's as great as it is terrible.
It's a heavy game in every sense that comes to mind. physically, draining, takes ages to set up/pack up, etc.
It's also a game you can pour hours upon hours on nothing else but character creation, and I mean that literally.
Combat is really fleshed out, there a broad range of spells and weapons...though decidedly less on skills.
Still enough to keep you more than busy though. Thankfully this will add some new ones.
The application and website are borderline unusable .... but free and more or less functional assuming at least one has the rules.

It's like a whole hobby of its own with all the rewards and pitfalls that entails.

The things that really bother me though is the translation. While functional it's clumsy and unwieldy at best.
It results in spending WAY more time looking up rules and trying to understand interactions than should be necessary.
The rules are mostly straightforward,...there is just a lot of them.

The other thing is the quality of loot. Even the epic loot is pretty uneventful.
Getting a drop in the first place is stupidly hard and when you do get something it's pretty meh most of the time
And then it's really restrictive on what you can wear, not in terms of conditions like race/stats but in terms of slots.
You can't dual wild two magical weapons for example.

Might make sense from a balance point of view but it's very unsatisfying.
This alone basically killed it for my group.
Despite all of that though it IS a fun game if you can dedicate the time it demands. The upsides outweigh the negatives.

Thanks, Roknar!

BGG has a ton of fanmade content in its Files, though you need an account.

Caleb's custom content is on Google Drive.

This is awesome! It really speaks to how good the core of the experience when this many people produce further content.

I absolutely love the game, and recommend it fully, I just always want to make sure people are ready for the clumsy translation... Not a barrier to play, but something you'll periodically be slapped in the face with.

Hello everybody! We are pleased to announce that both backers of previous campaigns, as well as people who have purchased the game or addons from our web store (or from another store, as long as they are not second-hand), will be able to purchase the following items from the Encounters expansion independently during the Pledge Manager.

-Bestiary I and Legendary Encounters cards (25€)

-Adventures and campaign book II (25€)

-Bestiary II (19€)

We will do a registry of people interested in this. You can write to us at info@ludicdragon.com with the subject "Encounters individual item", including your name, email (the one you are using for this Kickstarter) and the item you are interested in acquiring from the 3 we have listed.
