Hey guys!

I'm wanting to start one of these 3 armies, with the requirements that I have some flexibility in how I build my army.

I love to have the options to go multiple ways (I know Votann have a limited option currently, but I suspect this will change). I know orks have alot of options, and I know the Drukhari army is currently very well balanced.

Also, which army would you class the most fun to play against? I want my opponents to have fun too! And why?

Lastly, I've just invested in an airbrush. Which army do you think would prove the best use of that? (bearing on mind, I've never used one before?)

Any help is appreciated, thank you! 😊

Orks can be forgiving when it comes to painting. If you're new to airbrushing then it'd be easier to paint them rather than going for the more complex designs you see on Dark Eldar.

Honestly you should go for whatever you want to do. I wouldn't care to much about what your opponent thinks as you can still make an enjoyable list out of any of those armies.

Make a list of wich models/kits you actually LIKE in each faction.
And by like I mean as in liking the physical thing, not liking it because of its rules.

Build that force.

Remember you need to not only like how they play but, build, paint, and handle in life.

Could be lots of models in all three armies.
My habit is to paint all models before I play them.
So I hardly would play one of these armies.

I voted Orks as I currently build and paint some and I'm having a blast.
Their kits are stuffed with little detail, most parts are quite robust, and scratch-building some extra parts ads a lot!
Their older plastic kits are highly compatible, which increases the variability a lot. The newer kits are unfortunately less customizable. Especially the boys from the combat patrol are rather annoying in this regard, but nothing that can't be fixed with some greenstuff, a knife and a bit of patience.
They also allow a bunch of different army archetypes: vehicle heavy, green tide or the new beastsnaggas allow a ton of customization.
I don't have a clue about competitive capabilities though, as I never played 9th edition.

I haven't voted but I have two thoughts...

1) buy the models you love - the rules will change anyway

2) I have never seen someone playing orks not having fun

25PL of each.

Then fight with friends in small games at home while you're painting up our units. By the time you've finished painting all the models, you'll have played enough with each of the three that you can decide which army to grow.

As a drukhari player, I vote orks. Right now, drukhkari are kind of divvied up into 3 different sub-armies (plus a few neutral units that can go anywhere). As a result, it's tougher to pick up a given unit on a whim and splash it into your force. If you're building a kabal, for instance, but then decide you really want a squad of reavers, you'll ideally also buy a squad of wyches and a succubus (or Drazhar) so that you can put all those new units in a different patrol detachment and allow them to benefit from your chapter tactics (obsessions).

Basically, drukhari are just slightly less flexible in terms of collecting/playing them when you're first getting into the army. They're easier to collect when you either want to start a full army all at once or want to collect tiny armies one at a time.

They're also traditionally a glass cannon army meaning they tend to win big or lose big. And opponents tend to not enjoy when you win big. It's harder to pull your punches for the sake of good sportsmanship without completely throwing the game.

To my knowledge, orks don't really have any of those problems. Pretty much any unit can get tossed into a vanilla ork detachment without any fuss, and they seem slightly more forgiving than drukhari. Plus, orks always some of the most fun enemies to shoot off the table because they die at a respectable pace and have enough bodies to make a pretty big dead pile. It can be very satisfying.

Votann have a limited range meaning there are probably only a couple playstyles for now. Plus they have a lot of rules that make them more durable than you'd expect, and that can be annoying for opponents the first few times they face them. Plus, I suspect they might end up joining the club of armies that have a reputation for being OP even when they're not alongside eldar and tau. (Not that they weren't OP, but I'm predicting the reputation is going to stick even if/when they spend an edition being perfectly balanced.)

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
