Hello everybody. I'm developing a White Scars list out of my new miniatures. I managed to put out a sketch of the list, but I lack field experience to evaluate all the options properly, so I'd need a little help:

All units, except for the Chaplain and the Vanguards, have default options at the moment. I have to select another HQ option among a Captain or a Lieutenant (Primaris or Regular, I own all 4), but I'm not sure about which setup may perform better in this list. I also lack a heavy support unit, is it mandatory?

Between my unused miniatures I also have 2 Primaris Redemptor Dreadnoughts, 5 Reivers (w Sergeant), 5 Terminators (w Sergeant) and a spare Outrider.
I'm probably going to play this list against non-optimized lists (Necron, Death Guard and Ultramarines), so it doesn't have to, but I'd like to have an expert opinion about it.

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't have any anti-armor from what I can tell. Can the Vanguard Veterans take melta guns? If so it would be worthwhile to have a couple.

I personally like to run bikes with meltas. The speed of the bikes makes up for the meltas' short range. I also run attack bikes with multi meltas.

But in terms of using what you already listed, I would think about popping some powerfists on the Assault Intercessor sergeants. I also think the Invader ATV can take a Multi Melta. But you might need to downgrade the Chaplain to free up the points.

Keep in mind that White Scars have the Encirclement stratagem that allows them to outflank at the cost of 1 CP per unit. The Encirclement outflanking rules are superior to what you can do with regular Strategic Reserves.

Good luck!

Yeah, I'll probably run the ATV with melta. My A plan was to fit in a squad of eradicators, but I don't have the models at the moment. I have already built vanguards with claw and shield, so I think I'll leave them as they are (not sure they could select melta though, I'll check).
What about the Lieutenant setup?

In the end I managed to put together a list that makes sense (at least to me xD)

It's 1035 because I couldn't find out how to adjust the most recent values on the builder (-15 from Outriders, -15 from Eradicators, -5 from Vanguards storm shields upgrade), so if I'm not missing anything it should be exactly 1000 points.

++ Battalion Detachment 0CP (Imperium - Adeptus Astartes - White Scars) [49 PL, 5CP, 1,035pts] ++

+ Configuration +

**Chapter Selector**: White Scars

Battle Size [6CP]: 2. Incursion (51-100 Total PL / 501-1000 Points)

Primaris Lieutenant [4 PL, 75pts]: Bolt pistol, Master-crafted stalker bolt rifle

+ Troops +

Assault Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 105pts]
. 4x Assault Intercessor: 4x Astartes Chainsword, 4x Frag & Krak grenades, 4x Heavy Bolt Pistol
. Assault Intercessor Sgt: Heavy Bolt Pistol, Power fist

Assault Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 100pts]
. 4x Assault Intercessor: 4x Astartes Chainsword, 4x Frag & Krak grenades, 4x Heavy Bolt Pistol

. Eradicator Sgt

++ Total: [49 PL, 5CP, 1,035pts] ++

The Primaris Lieutenant is mostly a choice due to model availability. Basically I had 15 spare points that I decided to invest into a flamethrower and a powerfist for Assault Sergeants, but they may be reallocated somewhere else. Dunno about stalker rifles for regular intercessors, but wanted to try them out eheheh.

I've actually just been helping my best friend build his 1000 point White Scars list so this was pretty good timing.

Rather than your normal intercessors, I think going the route of some Eliminators for holding the backfield would work better. They are less points, and more flexible even though they loose obsec, but your army is so fast, it's easy to move around to support them in an emergency.

So after making the unit swap and accurately tallying your points (The Outriders are 135 points for 3, not 150). That gives you 1000 exactly.

Personally, I don't think you need 2 HQ choices in a small army like this, but there's only so much you can do with 75 free points and I know your restricted by models as well, so that should work for now until you get the feel for it. If you take that as 90 points, removing the weapon options you mentioned were just added in, you could run a firstborn Assault Squad. Jump packs + Advance and charge are pretty strong and it would lend a little more support to your bikers who could get isolated as is.

Also, don't forget if you're playing Warzone Nephilim that White Scars got a new custom secondary, Lightning Strike, and it's quite good for them.

Hi! It's always nice to greet a White Scar brother eheheh. I've deployed 2 HQ choices and 3 Troops because they're the minimum requirements for a Battalion according the rules for a battle-forged army. It's also true that while at 1000 points, my current army is only PL 49, does this allow me to treat it as a Combat patrol instead? If yes I'll be glad to get rid of the Lieutenant for more consistency. Sorry but I'm still pretty new to 40k, still getting accustomed to its kinda confusing building rules eheheh.

Eliminators are definitely on my wishlist, they're pretty good.

No, you can take whatever you want so long as you meet the minimum but aren't over the maximum. Patrol is 1-2 HQ and 1-3 Troop, so as long as you have 1 and 1, you are fine. Battalion is 2-3HQ and 3-6 Troop but unlocks A LOT more Elite slots and one more Fast Attack and Heavy Support slot. Once you've used up your free generalist detachment you have to start paying for them, so people are encouraged to build within the restrictions. Fortunately for Space Marines at low point costs like 1000, models are pretty pricy, so you can usually fit most lists into a Patrol.

Top, that changes everything eheheh.
I think I'll be keeping the regular intercessors for model availability reasons at the moment, while I'can single-handedly reinvest 75 points into something else. Thanks for the tips

Keep in mind that Chaplains, especially White Scars chaplains, are like the new smash captains. Particularly when the Assault Doctrine is active. So you have a very powerful melee HQ.

I'll break it down for you:
You have a chaplain on a bike. You also gave him Chogorian Storm as a Warlord Trait and took the Mantra of Strength prayer. Just also take the special crozium (I think it's called Benediction of Fury) as the relic.
Thus when the Assault Doctrine is active you can get:
1. Up to nine attacks on a charge (4 base attacks, +1 for Shock Assault, +1 for Mantra of Strength and up to +3 from Chogorian Storm).
2. -3 AP (Crozium is -2 and then an additional -1 for Assault Doctrine)
3. Strength 7 (base strength 4, +1 for Mantra of Strength and +2 from the Crozium)
4. Damage 5 per wound (Benediction of Fury is 3 base damage, +1 for Mantra of Strength and +1 for Devastating Charge).

So by Round three your Chaplain, who is also on a bike making him tougher and faster, can on a charge get 9 attacks at S7 -3AP and 5 Damage.

He can take a lot of gak down, including some vehicles. Keep him.

for 75 points you can invest in some Eliminators. They are useful for both securing your deployment area objectives or for deep striking on middle ground objectives.

Personally, I find The Imperium's Sword WT to be better than Chogorian Storm. It may only give you 1A instead of D3, but you also get +1S, putting you up to the important 8S, and can re-roll charges.
