You guys have any thoughts on the value for the battleforces coming out this holiday? Do you think they are worth it or is it better to buy 2 start collectings or combat patrols instead?

I am not sure if the prices are out yet for retail stores, but if anyone knows the prices for them in Canada, please let me know.

Cheers!

The discount rates aren't too different from the start collecting and combat patrols, somewhere between 25% and 40% depending on the box, so it really depends if the boxes contain minis you want. Tabletop skirmish games has done a couple of videos showing the discounts that each set gives so maybe that will help.

170 euro's at least for AOS boxes.

AUD$350 over here.

And it depends on what you want. Should one of my local places be able to get it, I'm going to get two of the Imp Fist ones as I want 30 Heavy Intercessors (love those minis), and I have a friend who wants to buy the Aggressors and one of the Imp Fist characters from me.

Not 100% certain what to do with the Imp Fist accessory sprues, but whatever...

If it's on "sale" and you weren't already going to buy every mini in the box, then you haven't "saved" money.

If you really want every single mini in a box, or have a ready way of selling the ones you don't, then sure it's a value proposition.

I mostly like them, it's a neat way to get a few units free. Not getting any this year as most are unsuitable for expanding existing collections due to having big unique characters and I don't want to start new factions. The Sylvaneth one is tempting tho.

Knights strikes me as a likely good value, but still rich for my pocket right now....

In a vacuum the values are ok.
The question is wether any of the boxes contain stuff I want. And the answer to that for the 40k boxes is: "Not in this years selection."
On the Sigmar side, if I were looking to build something the Skaven box would be it. But I've got enough projects on my bench atm, so no new rat-men for me in 2023....

The Polonius Christmas box power rankings (worst to first)

8: Raven guard. Who needs more phobos marines? Two invictors and what look to be the full multi part eliminators make this temping, but Shrike is faction locked while Reivers remain one of the worst datasheets in 40k after three legit codices. This one is going to be available at a discount come February.

7) Imp Fists. Oops all heavy intercessors. And another faction locked character, and agressors, who have one of the the most volitle datasheets in 40k, veering wildly from garbage to amazing.

6) Ad Mech: Hey, it's another sub faction locked character. Plus stuff from the goofier half of the book. There are a lot of jokes about these boxes being an excuse to clear out the warehouse. This box does nothing to quell that notion.

5) Sisters. This is a weird box because it's not a great starter, but I'm also not sure how many sisters players haven't already bought Morven Vahl. Luckily I'm one of them, so I'm windmill slamming this one as my christmas present to myself.

4) Deathguard. OTOH, this is a cool way to start the army. Combine with a combat patrol and you've got a lot of your infantry.

3) Thousand sons. Same as above but better, as you can arguably buy two combat patrols and this and actually have a solid army, not just a start to one.

2) Custodes. This is an army with only four real "troops" kits, and this box includes three of them. The character is real good too.

1) Knights. It's knights at a discount. Knights at this point have three kits (armigers, questoris, dominus) and this box has two of them. Buy two and you have a 2000 point Knights army that's actually pretty optimized. this one will sell out.

Ironically, all the Heavy Intercessors is WHY I want that box. I'm building an Oops, all Gravis Space Sharks list for the memes and need 15 Intercessors for Troops. With local store discounts, I can basically buy the Intercessors and get everything else "free" and use the character to convert a Gravis Totally Tyberos.

I also secured the Stormcast and Kruleboyz ones at the same place because those boxes fill 2 planned lists perfectly.

Yup. Same reason I ordered it. I don't GAF about the need to be competitive in a 2k tournament.
