I have been looking over the various Tyranid lists posted, and all of the ones I've seen stick to having 3 Warriors per Venom Cannon with no other 'special' weapons. However, if I read the rules right, one could, for every three warriors, have both a venom cannon and a barbed strangler.

Am I missing something, or is everyone really desperate to save 5 points by not taking barbed stranglers?

More likely that they updated the rules to match what the kit could build after many people had already assembled their models.

Do note that, in that same vein, a Tyranid Prime can now take the heavy weapon options if you so desire.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

Or they ask why bother spending points adding an anti-infantry weapon to an anti-tank squad, which is what you are doing putting Venom Cannons on the unit.

Part of the maximum optimization that goes on these days. Is a Barbed Strangler really worth the points over a Devouver in the age of Armor of Contempt?
