So Vallejo did not only release the new Contrast-like Xpress Color range, but also completely reworked the Game Color range with the help of Angel Giraldez.

The new Game Colors are more matt, supposed to have a higher pigmentation, and a total of 38 old colours have been discontinued and replaced with 44 new colours plus the 24 Xpress Colors.

I got my hands on a complete set and put my thoughts into an in-depth review here:
https://taleofpainters.com/2023/01/review-new-vallejo-game-color-range-now-for-pro-painters-only/

The new Game Color are totally different from the old range, and because of their more matt formula, even the older paints carried over to the new range will look slightly different, so you might want to stock up on old paints you rely on.

The new acrylics are pretty amazing though, with very high opacity and smooth consistency. The metallics & other stuff are solid, but don't stand out as much, and there are also a few duds as in most paint ranges.

The new Game Colors should be out soon, I've seen them at Element Games and some Spanish hobby stores already: https://elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/paints-washes-etc/vallejo-paints/new-game-color?d=10237

Thanks for the review.

Seems like Element only has a partial delivery. Quite a few of the new colours are missing from the website. Or I’m just failing at the internet.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Thanks for the review.

I look forward to trying them with the better opacity and longer drying times. Outside of washes/contrasts I've never really had an acrylic paint where I thought "damn, this dries too slow, I wish it dried faster", but the opposite is often the case.

And more opacity is always good, though disappointing the yellows and oranges aren't the best. What would your recommendation be for oranges and yellows these days?

I don't love the idea of them being more matte. I prefer a slightly satin finish by default, and reach for VMC rather than VGC when I want something to have a flat finish, though I guess I'll give them a go before I judge them on that.

I haven't used the VGC inks in a while, but some of my older models I found a good use in priming white, blocking in the area with a light/pale version of the final colour you want, then hitting it with an ink.

Thanks for the review!

Shame they've canned Dwarf Flesh, it's been my go to skin colour for years, hopefully it's replacement is good.

Not related to anything in particular, but I think we should acknowledge the diversity of Stahly's domain!

(I assume its a different Stahly )

First step, wargaming reviews.

Next step, control the food industry.

Final form...?

Might be tough to get down under, but I love the Pro Acryl reds for coverage. I haven't tried their yellows yet, but I have them on order.

Depending on how long you've been hobbying, Pro Acryl are the first paints to truly replace the old Citadel Foundation paints (which I have been jealously hoarding for a decade now...)

How do these new Vallejo acrylics compare to AK 3rd Gen acrylics? I'm an AK fanboy, there has to be a significant step up in quality for me to switch from them..

I only buy the occasional Citadel Air paint pot here and there to get particular shades, for everything else it's AK for me
