For a long time now, I've wanted a game with massive rolling hills, kind of like what you see in Total War Games on the computer, where an army can literally hide behind a massive hill, hidden from sight and then charge up at an approaching enemy.

But it eluded me until recently when I discovered a remarkable war gaming substance....

Carpet! I cut some old carpet to use as a game mat and found that if you stick some books or whatever underneath it, and pin it down with rocks I could make some truly massive hills that really blended in with the surrounding flat surface.

I think the reason this worked out was because carpet is thicker than a game mat or table cloth.

In any case, I'm now looking forward to making indirect fire great again. Huzzah!

Like the Explorators of 40k, you stumbled about some piece or Archeotech right there - i distinctly remember one of the White Dwarfs of yore, about the time when Epic 40k came out, recommending that very books-and-carpet solution for people that had not yet made specific Epic-scale terrain, all the way back in ca. 1997
