This is all relating to an Imperial Fists legion.

Putting together a Recon Squad with Shotguns and could use some advice on how to load out the Sgt. Being shotguns I'm assuming they'll end up in melee and figure the squad leader should be prepared to put a fistin' on the opponent but not sure exactly how to arm him.

I like the look and idea of the Quad Launchers but before plopping down US $64 a launcher I was hoping to find out if anyone had used them and their thoughts.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Quad launchers aren't nearly as oppressive as they were but for 40pts a pop, they're still good. They can upgrade with various shells as well for tactical flexibility. Model wise there are ways to get around the painful price tag but most will likely be third party. I use the FW Thudd Guns for my Iron Warriors and will be converting up some of the new Guard Ordnance Batteries for my Solar Auxilia.

As for the Recon Squad, they can all take Chain bayonets, so it's likely worth it, as for the Sarge, I'd personally give him an Axe. While it is Unwieldly, the Concussive from the Shotguns should bring WS down enough so that they have a pretty good chance of getting through, and Ap2 will shred Power Armor. (which is ideally what they are used for)

As for Launchers, I mainly use them as Fire-support for WE, with their main job being dispensing Pinning via Incendiary shells, and while the reduced blast and range limits their useful-ness, the Phosphex shells are good at deleting most non-terminator marines, so if you are going to have a Siege-Breaker, definitely worth buying

Rapiers are pretty good, you just need to know what your plan for them is going into it.

I'm not sure you can have shotguns and chain beys sadly.

I put meltabombs on my shotgun recons personally, it makes them a serious threat if you choose to outflank with them against someone with a bit of a long range motor pool like artillery or C-Beam preds, and long thanatars if they're playing mech (although you might have to eat some painful interceptor in the last case)

If you’ve got the points spare, Meltas on any unit which can deploy in advance seems a No Brainer. It might not win a game as such, but as you say it makes them a nasty surprise if not kept in check.

Destroyers put a hurt in' of Dreadnoughts because of their Rad Grenades and Melta Bombs. They are one of my "go to" units in ZM.

Absolutely! Destroyers are probably my favourite unit. I regularly run 2 units of 10 with meltabombs. Like you say they're pretty effective against dreads and automata. And go through mortal units and non-elite marines units like a knife through butter
