Been Around the Block

Hello;

Been a few years since I played 40k and I'm looking to return to the fun! Was wondering if someone with more knowledge then I regarding the latest rules and armies could take a look at my parking lot list. I love the IG tanks and was wondering if this was stupid or if it's actually viable.

Also I need to find 15pts to shave!

Thank you for whoever takes the time to help!

2015pts

Shadowsword: 4x Lascannons, 4x Heavy Bolters

125 Wounds with T8 being the lowest.

I think I have something to answer everything, but I'm not 100% sure with the new lineups of races. Last time I played was like 6-7th edition.

The standard game size is 2000 points, you'll need to cut 15 points to make it a legal list for normal games.

I'd take elite sharpshooters as your second doctrine instead of the movement buff. Movement distance is nice but you're taking a lot of guns that favor quality over quantity and that's where a single re-roll is most effective.

Get Gatekeeper in your list somehow (swapping instead of the executioner probably), having D3+6 shots instead of D6+3 makes it an auto-take.

The Infernus is bad, it's a FW unit that hasn't been properly updated to keep up with 9th's relentless power creep. Don't take it unless you own the model and absolutely have to use it to be happy.

With so many large models you're going to struggle with terrain on standard 9th edition tables. The Shadowsword may not be able to leave your deployment zone because it's wider than the gaps between typical terrain pieces, and the RDBTs (and Infernus, if you keep it) are going to be awkwardly competing for the same space. I'd consider taking some conventional LRBTs instead, and probably some infantry to screen and do secondary objectives.

What makes the Infernus so bad? On paper 3d6 auto hitting S7 AP2 2dmg sounds amazing to me, the fact that it never loses BS from wounds makes it stand up to me. The rest of what you say I will for sure start looking into it!

Compare it to an equal point cost of chem cannon Hellhounds which are way more durable and way less likely to explode in your own deployment zone.

What am I missing? The Infernus is T8 with 18 wounds and a 3+, the Hellhound is a T7 with 11 Wounds and a 3+. Thanks for your help btw.

11 wounds is significantly more durable than 18 wounds because of obscuring terrain.
